Bangkok Music City goes fully virtual with more than 60 participating Thai and global artists
The showcase festival will feature music performances and talks on gaming, film, soft power and art
Almost 2 years have passed, but COVID-19 is still looming over all of us. With the unpredictable restrictions put on physical events in Thailand, in lieu of its signature staging at the creative district of Chareonkrung, Bangkok Music City (BMC) 2021 is set to take place 100% online via YouTube Live through BMC’s YouTube channel and Gather.Town virtual space from November 20 to 21, 2021.
“Live music and entertainment industries have been hit hard by the pandemic, but we don’t want to lose hope and look beyond the pandemic preparing for the time when we can all enjoy ‘real life’ together once again,” says festival co-founder Piyapong ‘Py’ Muenprasertdee. “We strive to make BMC a platform for artists to stay connected with their fanbase, gain new international fans and seek new export opportunities by meeting with music business professionals from all over the world via our virtual networking event,” he adds.
This year, BMC will be featuring 41 Thai and 23 international artists, including 13 from Southeast Asia. As a co-founder and co-organizer of ASEAN Music Showcase Festival or AMS, BMC has also reinvited AMS alumni such as Cambodian hip-hop superstar VannDa and Singaporean indie pop act Sobs, who have cult followings in the US and Southeast Asia. Moreover, from the continued participation of AMS delegate Dexter Sy, Co-founder of Philippines’ Melt Records, their artists Chelsea Dawn and Francis Cang were included as part of the regional showcase at BMC this year. In addition to its ASEAN neighbors, artists all the way from South Korea, Taiwan, Mongolia, Canada, and even the United States will be joining - including Siahna who was on Team Pharrell on Season 9 of NBC’s The Voice.
“No matter the situation - or even another pandemic, I hope that BMC can be a platform to connect music professionals and artists not only on a professional level, but also build long-lasting relationships and friendships with each other,” Muenprasertdee adds, which reflects in the list of international partners who helped curated artist from around the world such as fellow music conference and showcase festivals: LUCfest and ZAshare of Taiwan, Zandari Festa of South Korea, and Live At Heart of Sweden and Canada; live music booking platform Gigmit; and of course,AMS co-organizers from all over the Southeast Asian region such as The Rest Is Noise from the Philippines, City ROARS! Festival from Malaysia, and Baramey Production from Cambodia.
Representatives of prominent festivals such as Glastonbury Festival and The Great Escape of the UK, SXSW of the US, and Fuji Rock and Summer Sonic of Japan will also be participating as official delegates.
In addition to music, BMC is billed as an entertainment and technology summit featuring talks on gaming, film, soft power and the hottest topic in the art world today - NFTs. However, because of the pandemic preventing most international travel, the organizers of BMC have focused on Thai speakers with an aim of educating the local market. Thus, all conference content will be scoped around the Thai market and in the Thai language - just like last year’s edition.
This year’s edition is co-presented by Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) and the Creative Economy Agency (CEA) of Thailand, with support from Music Copyright (Thailand) Ltd. (MCT).

Shane G’s self-care anthem “Loved” gets praised by Stray Kids’ Bang ChanZ
Shane G is the latest in a lineage of budding Filipino singer-songwriters who have recently caught the attention of K-Pop stars.
Her inspirational self-care ballad “Loved” was featured on VLIVE, a series of streaming sessions curated and hosted by BANG CHAN of Korean boyband Stray Kids.
The Korean pop star praised the message of the song on the 131st episode of his streaming sessions, which happened last November 6, 2021, Saturday (PH time). The format of the online show focuses on championing new music and fresh discoveries from all over the world, as recommended by BANG CHAN himself and his fans.
After finding out about the clip, Shane G expressed her excitement through a Facebook post: “This one’s really SURREAL!!! Am I dreaming??? I will treasure this forever as a STAY, and as an artist. Thank you so much!”
Last month, the student-musician scored two nominations at the 34th Awit Awards for two categories: Breakthrough Artist and Favorite Female Artist on the strength of her viral single “Head Over Heels,” which has racked up more than 160 thousand streams on Spotify alone.
Shane considers being recognized by the country’s equivalent of The Grammy’s an important milestone in her promising career.
“I actually started releasing my original songs last year, and to be nominated for this year’s Awit Awards is such a huge blessing,” the young artist shares. “It’s really an overwhelming experience to the point that I still cannot believe it until now.”
Shane G has recently released the independently produced “Kapag Puwede Na,” which finds her interpreting a finely crafted romantic song that she wrote two years ago. According to Shane, it took her four hours to record “Kapag Puwede Na” because of the elaboratedetails that came to play: the vocal layers, the ad libs, the harmonies and the production itself. “I literally became tired after recording it but it was all worth it!”

Dark pop singer FLØRE has finally dropped her second EP, ROMANIAC. The new release finds the eclectic solo artist dealing with the world of a character called ROMANIAC, who represents the part of FLØRE that she has never shared before: the one who seeks revenge, and the one filled with anger and issues.
Similar to her debut EP “SUPERBLOOM” (Oct 2020), she invited Berlin’s Indie pop artist NOVAA to produce the 5-track release.

About “Another year like that and we’d be all dead,”FLØRE explains that the focus single deals with what life means to her: growing up, losing your loved one, letting go of love, living with depression, and overcoming personal struggles despite the odds.
As the acclaimed German singer-songwriter puts it, the EP celebrates the beautiful tragedy of being closer to death, of being forgotten and nothing. “It's so tragic, that it's beautifully sweet,” the experimental pop artist shares in a statement. “Because if it wasn’t sweet, we'd all be dead by now. Sometimes, losing all hope is freedom.”
FLØRE’s lyrics on ROMANIAC is informed by the pandemic, with its apocalyptic sentiments enveloping every word and visual frame. The promising newcomer admits, “I wanted to capture the feeling of growing up in a teenage tragedy, how everything is rushing in high speed with an apocalyptic taste, but it's a bit too dangerously quite in the chaos. Like the calm inside of a storm.”
The song follows her last single “Cigarette,” which focuses on the self-destructive side of romance. Earlier this year, FLØRE opened the story of ROMANIAC with the first single “Dead Boys” and “Bad Medicine.”
FLØRE writes songs “to give this weird existence a meaning”. Feeling like an alien for most of her life, she spent her childhood playing guitar, singing and dreaming of the universe. She’s inspired by the darkness of growing up, the beautifully broken and the feeling of what it must be like when life begins. Or what it must be like when it ends. Or what it is at all. She calls herself a moon lover, who expresses the loneliness in her songs, revealing her touching voice telling stories about her own fragileness, devotion for unusual human beings and a broken love.
The 25-year-old not only writes about broken love or dreaming of the universe but also addresses issues like mental health. “Depression is a serious disease which needs to be normalized and talked about, cause nothing kills you like your own mind,” the pop songstress explains. “And I'm so proud and feel so strong writing about mental health. For me it feels like you will never get rid of a major depression. It’s about handling the demons and maybe even becoming friends with them.”
In an interview with Glasse Factory she points out that “It’s okay to be not okay. It’s okay to be sad and to feel alone and to be weird.”
FLØRE has made her impressive debut in 2018, with the “dark pop brilliance of Flowered Guts” that premiered on The Line Of Best Fit. The track also earned rave reviews from indie music publication Earmilk which describes her vocals as “euphoria that feels timeless and calming.”
Besides getting attention in the blog landscape, FLØRE is part of Spotify’s RADAR program, got featured on Playlists like New Music Friday US on top of New Music Friday playlists in 20 other countries, Indie Pop, EQUAL GSA, Indie Womxn, Easy, and many more. Her single ‘Bad Medicine’ went straight to Germany’s Radio Top 200 charts.

Rising star Dionela is riding the soul train with the release of his new single “Sugal”—out today via MCA Music Inc.
The soothing R&B track equates loving someone tobetting your heart in a gamble: it’s a risky endeavor that has no assurance of winning or losing, but it’s part of growing up.
“The song is about being courageous in falling in love again after so many heartbreaks from your past toxic relationships,” the Agaw singer-songwriter/producer adds.
With his velvety vocals floating freely into the background, Dionela delivers a captivating performance that fleshes out both his persona and aesthetic. About Dionela
When Tim Dionela was older, his parents told him that, after a pastors’ meeting his father attended, a foreign missionary there went over to him and predicted, or rather prophesied, that their son would someday make it to the top of the music world with God’s help. Whether this will come to pass is something we have yet to know, but Dionela, as he wants us to call him, has enough promise to at least make a start.
Dionela was born in 1999 and lives in Guiguinto, Bulacan. His parents loved to make music, and he started singing when he was three. “Even at a very young age,” he says, “my parents noticed that I’m not afraid to sing in front of many people.” He would volunteer to entertain people at parties and events. When he was eight, he says that he became able to sing in tune. His mother even reports that he would call out musicians and singers in church for playing and singing off-key. Even at that age, he took music very seriously.
Dionela took his musical skills one step further when he turned 11. Someone taught him how to play the guitar, and he learned how to do it even if he didn’t know what chord he was playing. He started composing songs back then and would make his friends at the computer shop hear his new tunes. When he turned 16, he auditioned for a choir at school, but he didn’t make it after the choir director heard him singing the notes of his audition piece with a twist. The choir director’s conclusion? Dionela was better as a soloist.
After some disappointments in life, many years later, Dionela decided to start making music on his terms. He learned music production and set up his own studio, which proved helpful during the pandemic. He continued to compose songs about love and to keep learning how to make his music better. Now, he says, he has found his musical identity. He is an R&B artist with dreams of being a pop star.
Dionela’s fondness for R&B began when he first encountered American singer-songwriter Ginuwine’s 2001 tune “Differences.” The song is still one of Dionela’sfavorites to this day; he still listens to it. Its distinct synth intro and melodic chorus left an impression on him. It is just one example of the kind of music that he feels is connected to his soul. He has since discovered many other R&B artists, particularly those who have crossed over into the pop charts like Bruno Mars. However, R&B acts from the 1990s and early 2000s have a special place in his heart, including Boyz II Men, Destiny’s Child, Neyo, and Usher.
So what does this mean for Dionela’s take on R&B? He sees contemporary artists such as Weeknd and H.E.R as making up his musical DNA. At the same time, he also wants to revive a kind of R&B sound prevalent during the 80s and early 90s, giving it a modern twist. When asked who he wants to produce his music to make it happen, he named No Rome. The Filipino R&B musician and producer started his career in the independent music scene in Manila before moving to London and eventually signing with the same label as The 1975. Dionela admires how No Rome produces music; he once listened to a No Rome song with many samples, but it didn’t leave a bad taste in his mouth.
What does Dionela hope for his music? He wants to make his songs the kind that fit into a couple’s love story that they would remember as they grow older. He wants his music to leave a legacy for other younger musicians to admire. Most of all, despite his dreams of success, he hopes to remain the humble kid from Guiguinto whose parents were told that God had big musical plans in store for him. After all, musical talent can be providential.

James Arthur shares personal changes in life and relationships on new album, It’ll All Make Sense In The End

British singer-songwriter James Arthur is finally back with his highly anticipated fourth studio album, It’ll All Make Sense In The End.
Having written and recorded bulk of the songs during the lockdown in the comforts of his home, the versatile hitmaker spent some time ruminating on the changes in his personal life, while using it as inspiration for his music-making journey. This enabled him and his collaborators to work on their own convenient time, round the clock, but not to the clock.
“And all of a sudden, the music started sounding great,” the former X Factor UK winner shares in a statement. “From day one there was a sound that I wanted to go for. Even early on, it sounded like a real album, a proper body of work. This is the first time I’ve made an album all in one place and you can hear this in the music. There’s something really comfortable about working in your own home – I was able to be more vulnerable than ever."
After writing the boldly autobiographical first single “Medicine,” James and frequent collaborator Andrew Jackson (“Train Wreck”) quickly came up with “Losing You,” an anthemic electronic-rock song that’s big on heart, riffs and emotive punch.
Arthur reveals, “I wanted this album to have proper rock elements. The kind of rock I love is emo and pop-punk, so I wanted to domy take on that genre. Lyrically that song, like a lot of the songs, is the sound of someone who’s doing a lotof reflecting, a lot of processing and being really honest about where I’ve been in my head. And in that song I’m talking to myself: I feel like I’m always on the verge of losing you.”
Another important track in the album is the early keeper “Déjà Vu,” written with Jackson and Mark Crew (Bastille, Rag’n’Bone Man). Demonstrating the full range of his vocal abilities, Arthur sings, ‘You fucked me up, I can’t get enough,’ with astounding vagueness that is a bit of everything, depending on how the listeners interpret the material.
“It’s been well documented that I’ve had my issues with all of those. It’s just quite honest stuff, really,” the iconic British artist adds.
Second single “September” is also part of the album, and shines through with its no-holds-barred confessional appeal and acoustic-meets-trap sound. As vulnerably naked in his lyrics as he ever was, Arthur also isn’t afraid to sing to the next generation: “Emily” is a tender, intimate mea culpa to the daughter he might one day have.
"That arose from conversations about having kids,” the pop/rock dad explains. “Would I even be a good dad? What if they read about all the shit I’ve been through? It doesn’t matter, because ultimately I’m the guy who’s going to be there for you all your life."
The record also includes “SOS,” which Arthur describes as an album-defining song with 30 Seconds To Mars-esque chorus and a rap flow reminiscent of Miguel.
In moving out of London, the musician has created a safe space: a working place, family place, fitness place. In building that sanctuary he’s felt even more comfortable to be even more open, not just about the things that are inspiring him but also the things that are plaguing him.
“Travelling, going to other people’s studios, doing sessions in new places – for someone like me who has a bit of social anxiety, all that was difficult,” the multi-platinum musician shares. “But working at home allowed me to be more vulnerable.”
It allowed him to finesse a sound that gels over the entire album, that process aided by additional production from Matt Rad, who’s worked with Taking Back Sunday, one of his favorite bands. He helps bring cohesion.
“The sound is very simple. It’s basically raucous guitars with trap beats and strong, strong melodies,” Rad says of a musical approach he's been honing for years in his collaborations with superstar artists such as Ty Dolla $ign, Machine Gun Kelly and Juicy J.
To date, James Arthur has sold over 30 million records worldwide and has to date released three hugely successful albums: James Arthur (UK No. 2), Back From The Edge (UK No. 1) and YOU (UK No.2), alongside nine solo UK Top 40 singles. He’s had two No.1 smash hits and was awarded a disc for reaching a billion streams on
Spotify with ‘Say You Won't Let Go’, the No.1 global hit that brought the singer-songwriter from Middlesbrough back from the edge (it currently has 1.7 billion streams on the platform).

Power pop trio Parasouls transport listeners back in time with the release of their debut EP, Drifters, Dream Makers under Lilystars Records.
The Filipino indie band’s latest record documents the easygoing days of being young and carefree, while waxing nostalgic of the people, places, and events that shaped their consciousness through the years.
According to guitarist and vocalist Dani Dimaano, Drifters, Dream Makers also serves as a love letter to a closed chapter in her life. “It’s like opening a time capsule: an adventure through time and space to a simpler, more reminiscent happy time of life. Drifters, Dream Makers is about the little things that you want to remember. It’s for the drifters and the dream makers. And who says you can’t be both?”
Written and produced by the band themselves, Drifters, Dream Makers articulates the self-conscious journey of youthful love and awakening through the lens of someone looking back at life with fondness.
“We wanted to make something that is filled with energy that will hopefully let you escape the real world, and experience euphoria at least the time being,” Dimaanosays in a statement. “If I were to describe it, it sounds like a dream. We all worked on this together, with the help of our friend Migzz Rival of Four Corners Musicians Lair.”
The EP contains six meticulously crafted songs that showcase the band’s deft melodic touch and tight songwriting. The EP’s focus track “Magic Markers” illustrates a color-soaked portrait of innocence and charm, with lyrics that turn imagination into a powerfully resonant statement. “And she paints the world, with neon cars in the sky,” Dimaano sings over breezy melodies, tremolo guitar flourishes, and laid-back drums, seizing the moment with observations that come from a place of self-discovery and excitement. The song dives deep into the band’s more introspective side of storytelling, but careful not to lose the indie pop sensibilities that define much of its previously released material.
Other tracks in the record include “Can We Can We,” which NME praised for drawing on “the escapist reverie of 1990s pop rock,” the summery, noise-pop anthem “Sunny Beach,” and the dreamy tune “Lullaby.”
The album artwork is designed by Stina Honasan, the daughter of globally renowned visual artist Martin Honasan and iconic singer-songwriter Barbie Almalbis. The visuals capture the childlike wonder of the record, and channels the excitement of being an adventurous kid out for a ride.
“It was really great working with Stina,” Dimaano points out. “If I’m not mistaken, I’m her first client. I drew a prompt telling her what to do and she just went on from there. I told her to have fun with it. And as expected, she nailed it.”

Fully vaccinated Filipinos can now visit the holy land
For the first time in more than eighteen months, vaccinated individual and group travelers from the Philippines are now welcome to enter Israel and explore the country’s rich culture, history, and stunning landscapes.
The Israel Ministry of Tourism announced that fully vaccinated tourists from the Philippines can resume all travel to Israel. After kicking off the pilot reopening program in May of 2021, which initially allowed a select number of tour groups to enter the country, all vaccinated travelers may now visit Israel after the extended closure due to COVID-19 restrictions.
“To say we are excited that Israel is reopening to travellers is an understatement,” said Sammy Yahia, Tourism Director for Philippines and India. “Israel has taken incredible steps to protect its people and visitors and we pride ourselves on ensuring a COVID-safe and unforgettable trip to those who will be entering our beautiful country. Israel’s Prime Minister Naftali Bennett along with several other Ministers within the country (Tourism, Health, Transportation, etc.), have come together and formed the following plan which has been approved by the COVID cabinet with developments and new COVID variants being monitored closely.
“We have been awaiting this moment, to bring back international travellers into our country, for a very long time now,” said Yoel Razvozov, Israel’s Minister of Tourism. “We’re ecstatic to share our country with everyone once again and I’m proud to be working closely with our Prime Minister Naftali Bennett among other Ministers within the country to ensure a thoughtful, safe return to tourism."
The guidelines for entry include:
Taking a PCR test 72 hours before an outbound flight, filling out a passenger declaration, and a taking a PCR test upon arrival in Israel (needing to quarantine in hotel until results return or 24 hours pass – the lesser of the two).
To enter the country, one must:
Have been vaccinated with two doses of the Pfizer, Moderna, Astrazenica, Sinovac or Sinopharm vaccine at least 14 days prior to the day of entry into Israel (14 days must have passed since receival of second dose upon arrival into Israel, but no more than 180 days upon leaving Israel - i.e., if it has been six months since the second dose, you will need the booster shot to enter).
Those that have received the booster vaccine dose, and at least 14 days have passed since received, can enter Israel.
Have been inoculated with one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least 14 days prior to the day of entry into Israel (14 days must have passed since second dose receival upon their arrival into Israel, but no more than 180 days upon leaving Israel - i.e., if it has been six months since your second dose, you will need the booster shot to enter).
Those that have received the booster vaccine dose, and at least 14 days have passed since received, can enter Israel.
Have recovered from COVID-19 and who present proof of the results of a positive NAAT test at least 11 days prior to the day of entry into Israel (no more than 180 days upon leaving Israel).
Have recovered from COVID-19 and have received at least one dose of the WHO-approved vaccines.

In its bid to shine a spotlight on the genre’s movers and shakers, the record label promises to introduce these new music discoveries to the streaming generation through its sustainable promotional, marketing, and artist development efforts.
The new roster is led by celebrated hip-hop veteran HBOM, who has made a remarkable contribution to the industry as an artist, entrepreneur, songwriter/composer, and music visionary. With over 8 million streams across all music platforms worldwide and four acclaimed albums under his belt, HBOM is responsible for leading his own music movement with protégés in the scene, including Filipino-American rap superstar EZ Mil and South African-based artist Michael Bars.
“I’ve been in the hip-hop scene for over 20 years, and I’ve withstood the times when no one liked hip-hop,” the respected multi-hyphenate shares in a statement. “What makes my music standout is the distinct voice that I have. When everyone hears it, they already know its me.”
HBOM’s new single “Witness,” which will be released on November 10, is a chill-hop jam about minding one’s own business, and settling down on what truly matters in life like family and adult priorities. Another globally renowned artist in the roster is 19-year-old Michael Bars, who recently worked with Filipino hip-hop artist Michael Pacquiao on the viral banger “Pac-Man.” As an award-winning wordsmith known for making socially conscious music that transcends cultural barriers, Michael Bars has proven himself as a highly skillful rapper and producer with more than 8.7 million streams across all combined digital platforms worldwide.
“My main goal is to build a bigger name in the music industry and to spread my message as an artist,” says the South Africa-based hip-hop newcomer. “I use rap music as my weapon to talk about my life and I don’t cuss in them because it’s easier for children to rap along to the lyrics.”
His new single “Never Stop,” which recently dropped on November 3, is a massive jab of an anthem about picking one’s self up and never backing down in a fight. The song was inspired by his personal experience dealing with bullies in his high school years. Featuring 10-year-old R&B singer Sky, the track captures a visceral but powerful performance between the two artists.
Rounding up the urban roster is Filipino rap artist REN, formerly known as Balasubas. As a talented rapper that stands out with his unique style and confidence, the Dongalo Wreckords member has amassed over 5 million views on YouTube alone in less than two years.

REN has recently released his first official single “In Throw” under Sony Music Philippines. REN adds, “behind this music was a story; a story of a person who is doing his best to continue in spite of rejection and judgment.” The music video is helmed by Aleksei Hipolito, a frequent collaborator of the rap thespian.

Stay healthy, stay informed: Protecting yourself from prostate cancer
Compared to the staggering numbers of COVID-19 cases over the past year, over 8,000 newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients in 2020 hardly made any statistical buzz. However, it is possible that the actual number is over 8,000 but patients exhibiting symptoms have not sought professional help and were not counted. According to medical experts, more proactive disease awareness and education is key.
As part of its advocacy to make Filipinos more aware of their healthcare needs, Johnson & Johnson (Philippines), Inc. continually and strongly supports activities that would better spread the right information about prostate cancer across the country. Activities such as the recent Usapang Prostate Cancer lay forum and Libreng Patingin teleconsultations spearheaded by the Philippine Urological Association, in partnership with the Department of Health, Philippine Society of Uro-Oncologists, and Cancer Warriors Foundation, Inc. Both events were held on Prostate Cancer Awareness Month last September.
Led by the country’s top urologists, the Usapang Prostate Cancer webinar discussed how prostate cancer can be tricky to detect, as its more worrying symptoms only present themselves when it is already in its late stages, which makes it, ultimately, harder to treat. This characteristic is also why prostate cancer is responsible for the ninth highest number of cancer-related fatalities in the country, as reported by GLOBOCAN.
“Prostate cancer tends to affect older men, particularly those 50 years old and above,” shared Dr. Erwin Benedicto, head of Medical Affairs of Johnson & Johnson’s (Philippines), Inc.“There are cases of younger males getting diagnosed with prostate cancer, but it is extremely rare. Another problem with prostate cancer is that its symptoms are largely invisible, easily mistaken by many as signs of aging.”
According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, there are usually no early warning signs for prostate cancer. However, in rare cases, these warning signs can include a need to urinate frequently and sometimes urgently, difficulty starting or holding back urination, weak or interrupted flow of urine, painful or burning urination, difficulty having an erection or painful ejaculation, and pressure or pain in the rectum.
It is also important to remember that urinary symptoms do notnecessarily mean a person has cancer. Prostatitis and Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy, described as enlargement of the prostate, are diseases that can cause similar symptoms and are just as common as prostate cancer.
“The level of knowledge and awareness about prostate cancer in the Philippines is low despite the statistics,” said Raghu Krishnan, president of Johnson & Johnson (Philippines), Inc. “As a company in the business of caring, we have made it our mission to make information about the disease, including treatments and support, available to every Filipino family. Information alone can save many lives.”

70TH MISS UNIVERSE COMPETITION® will be held in Eilat Israel, December 12.
The Miss Universe Organization, the Israel Ministry of Tourism and the city of Eilat announced that the 70th MISS UNIVERSE® competition will air live from Eilat, Israel on December 12, 2021, at 7 p.m. EST. Israeli singer and international star, Noa Kirel, will perform at the competition.
This year’s competition will also feature two other contestants from the region: Miss Universe United Arab Emirates and Miss Universe Morocco. This will mark the first time that a delegate from the United Arab Emirates has competed in the competition. Additionally, Miss Universe Morocco returns to the competition for the first time in over four decades.
“Despite the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic placed in our path, we knew how to maintain the balance between health and the economy, to bring tourism back to Israel and we wish to welcome Filipinos again,” said Sammy Yahia, Israel Ministry of Tourism Director for the Philippines, and India. “The Miss Universe pageant is without doubt an important and significant event.”
The contestants’ will arrive in Israel ahead of the competition to explore all the host country has to offer, beginning in Jerusalem and ending their trip in Eilat, where the competition will take place.
Meanwhile, Miss Universe Philippines Beatrice Gomez together with MUPh Board of directors had a meeting with the representatives of Israel Ministry of Tourism and Israel Embassy. He also emphasized the special relations between Israel and the Philippines and wished Ms. Gomez good luck in the- competition.
The competition, in addition to celebrating the past 70 years of championing strong women and their platforms, will also shine a spotlight on the issue of global warming as part of a green agenda that corresponds with the values of the host country. Using the Miss Universe platform, the December 12th production will highlight both the bold contestants of the past and the social and global issues they faced in their time, and the fact that climate change is on the world agenda for the next generation of women. The broadcast will aim to raise awareness amongst the hundreds of millions of spectators, with the hopes of inspiring action in contestants’ community.

SB19 addresses critics on the arcade game-inspired music video of “Bazinga”
The globally renowned pop group takes the visuals to the next level with themes of graffiti, gaming, and superhero noir
Filipino pop supergroup SB19 has officially dropped the music video for “Bazinga,” the third single off their critically acclaimed EP, Pagsibol.
Set in an underground combat zone, the music video shows the multi-awarded quintet defeating their enemies in an Arcade combat game. In true SB19 fashion, it also doubles as an up-in-arms statement against the unwarranted criticisms hurled at the P-Pop group since the beginning of their music journey.
The song itself is written as a response to the hostility that is rapidly proliferating on the Internet, and a wakeup call for the band to focus their energy instead on meaningful expressions of art and music, and the love that they’ve been getting from fans all over the world. “One way to lighten the load is by writing a song that proves that we won’t back down to the negative comments and we’ll persevere,” the chart-topping boyband shares in a statement. “As it says from the lyrics, ‘Hate niyo’ygasolina’ - we continue to flourish and emerge as better individuals, despite the hostility.”
The “Bazinga” MV is directed by Jonathan Tal Placido, and co-directed by Chapters, the production team behind their post-apocalyptic “What?” video. SB19’s very own Justin de Dios also heavily contributed to the concept of the material, which blends themes of graffiti, gaming, and superhero noir against a chaotic but visually interesting anti-establishment backdrop.
The release of the music video comes off the heels of SB19’s nomination at the prestigious MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Southeast Asia act. According to SB19, being nominated alongside the region’s biggest names is already an achievement, and makes them work even harder to put the Filipino music on the international map.
“The BBMA nomination was a big, big thing for us already. Now being nominated for the EMAs, which is another prestigious and well-known award-giving body, has us so overjoyed,” SB19 says. “And being backed up by our loved ones, and A’TIN, further motivates us to keep pushing on. We hope to keep up the traction and to hit our goals of introducing Philippine music globally.”
Aside from their notable achievements, the envelope-pushing pop ensemble and their label, Sony Music Philippines, will be releasing an exclusive line of merch slated to drop before Christmas. A representative from the label shares that the project stands out in terms of visuals, packaging, and presentation, and is aligned with the group’s global appeal and branding. “This line of merch is different from those previously available, and it went through a lot of revisions and quality checks to ensure that the products are top-notch.
