Filipino singer-songwriter SHANNi reflects on betrayal and toxic relationships in new single “Teleserye”

May 27, 2026

The melodic but dreamy pop-rock track pairs infectiousness with somber introspection

Fresh off from the success of her last single “SikretongTayo Lang May Alam,” which entered the Spotify Viral 50 Philippines chart and surpassed a million streams within five months, SHANNi continues her upward trajectory with the release of her new single “Teleserye”—out today via Sony Music Entertainment.

Driven by conversational lyrics and emotionally poignant storytelling, the alt-pop newcomer pours her heart out on betrayal and manipulation that comes from toxic relationships and friendships. On “Teleserye,” she paints a familiar portrait of having endured chaos in silence before ultimately finding the courage to walk away and find her peace in the process.

SHANNi explains, “Teleserye feels like a huge step for me creatively and emotionally. After the success of “SikretongTayo Lang May Alam,” I realized I wanted to become more fearless when it comes to storytelling and expressing vulnerability in my music. With this release, I became more intentional about writing from a place that’s completely honest and personal instead of trying to filter my emotions.”

SHANNi channeled a real-life experience into her art, writing from a place of hurt and honesty. Rather than suppressing it, she used songwriting as a form of healing and self-expression.

“A lot of the inspiration behind Teleserye came from real emotions and experiences that genuinely affected me emotionally,” shares the young artist. “There were moments where everything felt overwhelming, confusing, and emotionally draining, and writing became my way of processing those feelings instead of letting them consume me. Rather than reacting impulsively or doing something I might regret, I chose to pour those emotions into music and turn them into something creative.”

Musically, “Teleserye” reveals a somber but inviting pop-rock sound that combines infectious hooks with introspective themes. The contrast between layered and dreamy upbeat textures and emotionally weighty lyricism reflects the complicated strains of real-life emotions, particularly relatable to young listeners going through a rough patch.

For SHANNi, the intentional take on the sound design captures the experience of people hurting deep down while still trying to keep things light on the surface.

“When creating music, I usually start by thinking about how I want listeners to feel emotionally before they fully process the lyrics,” the Kdrama singer-songwriter admits. “I love the idea of someone being pulled in by a melody that feels addictive, then slowly realizing there’s actually a vulnerable and emotional story underneath everything. That contrast creates a stronger emotional impact because listeners experience both. Sometimes, difficult topics can feel heavy, so balancing them with melodic hooks and catchy production allows people to connect with the emotions without feeling completely weighed down by them. I think that balance is part of what makes my music feel honest and relatable because people experience emotions in complicated ways too.”

The track was written and co-produced by SHANNi with her longtime collaborators Max Cinco, Ezekiel Diaz, Dave Silonga, and Raine Roque. Honing a collaborative environment that enables vulnerability and experimentation to coexist throughout the creative process, “Teleserye” reveals a sonically engaging sound that strikes a balance between crossover appeal and creative integrity.

SHANNi’s “Teleserye” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.
