Mt. Lewis Time Travels Back to the 90s in playful new song, “Kung Ayaw Mo”

MANILA, PHILIPPINES—Smooth rock four-piece band hailing from Angeles, Pampanga, Mt. Lewis takes us back to the 90s with their new vibrant and light track titled “Kung Ayaw Mo”—released on September 25 via Offshore Music.

After a year since July, Mt. Lewis finally released a fresh new song following their synth-rock fusion single “Kidlat”. Still carrying that same electrifying feeling, “Kung Ayaw Mo” differs slightly as it leans towards a more coy and quirky tone, specifically describing that stage in a budding relationship where uncertainty and misunderstandings can be settled with playful banter as heard in the lyricism and instrumentation of the song.  A “suyuan” anthem, if you will. In the words of Lewis Tiongco, lead guitarist and vocalist of the band, they were inspired by watching old comedy films when they were younger, cramped inside someone’s house and just shooting the breeze as a classic Pinoy comedy film plays in the background. They intend “Kung Ayaw Mo” to have that same warm and vibrant energy to every listener, as if they too were watching a 90s comedy film. “For this particular track, we can also say that we were inspired by “Di Bale Na Lang” by Gary V. It was one of those songs that helped us visualize the kind of fun and playful Filipino pop sound we wanted to explore,” Tiongco shares, giving flowers to “Mr. Pure Energy” himself.

Speaking of energy, Lewis also opens about the band exploring the lighter side of their sound in this new single by highlighting the usage of an acoustic guitar as the main body of the music to push the weightless texture forward. “This release definitely reveals the band’s quirkier side, both musically and in terms of our personality,” says Tiongco.Support Mt. Lewis everywhere and every time by streaming “Kung Ayaw Mo”, out now on all digital streaming platformswith a music video to premiere on October 9 via the Mt. Lewis YouTube channel.
