Filipino singer-songwriter Kate Torralba to perform at MUSICMEX in Mexico City

June 13, 2025

The award-winning multi-hyphenate is also gearing up for the release of her upcoming sophomore album to be released in late 2025

Acclaimed Filipino singer-songwriter and multidisciplinary artist Kate Torralba will be representing the Philippines at the first edition of MUSICMEX, a premier music showcase festival dedicated to fostering collaborations, cultural exchanges, and business opportunities in music.

The event will take place in Mexico City, with Torralba performing on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Jardin Jacarandas.

Torralba’s participation marks an important moment for Asian representation in Latin American music markets, highlighting the country’s potential as a goldmine of creative talents in contemporary music. “I’ve always heard amazing things about the music scene in Mexico from musician-friends in Berlin and Tokyo,” shares Kate in a press statement. “I’m so psyched to finally experience it myself, and even more I feel so lucky to have been chosen to represent my country in this international music industry event.”

Known for her artistic versatility, KT has established herself as one of the Philippines’ most respected creative fixtures. A true hyphenate, she seamlessly navigates the worlds of music, fashion, literature, and film. She is a Palanca-winning writer, a mentee of National Artist Ryan Cayabyab for music, and a rising filmmaker whose debut short film Ha-Ha-Hambog garnered three nominations at the recent International Silent Film Festival Manila: Best Film, Best Director and Best Musical Score.

In 2014, Kate Torralba released her full-length album, Long Overdue. An introspective indie-pop record, it was lauded for its vulnerable songwriting and lush production, topping year-end lists including the now-defunct music publication Vandal On The Wall. A decade later, she is finally working on the much-anticipated follow-up, slated to be released in late 2025.

For her set, Kate promises an intimate and engaging show with storytelling in between songs. “I think what sets me apart from other musicians is that I am a multi-hyphenate artist, my many creative transmissions inform my performance onstage. No set is ever the same because every crowd is different - and I always say that the show can only get as good as the crowd is.”

Joining Kate Torralba in the Philippine delegation to MUSICMEX are MC Galang and Ian Urrutia, co-founders of The Rest Is Noise PH, a music publication, curator, and events producer based in Manila, Philippines. They will be participating in a panel discussion about “Cultural Rhythms: Expanding Mexican Music to Southeast Asia.”
