Amplifying their spiritual journey through songs that resonate on a personal level, the label’s roster of faith-based music acts continues to inspire listeners to seek enlightenment in the face of adversity, and to believe in the higher being’s immeasurable grace and healing power.

Newly signed artist Cherise Katriel marks her official debut with the release of “Walang Katulad,” a stripped-down pop ballad that sings praise about God’s infinite and unconditional love. Produced by Jungee Marcelo, Katriel’sworship track aims to “shift your heart into gratefulness for God’s love.”

The talented newcomer adds, “It's relaxing, comforting, soothing, and calming to listen to. I do believe the goal was reached because about a week after releasing it, one person messaged me and was sharing how stressed she was feeling, but when she listened to this song, it's as if she was being comforted.”

Serving in the ministry for years, Katriel was offered an opportunity to relay inspiring words of healing and worship. “Walang Katulad” is a refreshing introduction to her work as an artist: an honest, captivating material that paints a powerful imagery of divinity and praise.

“I am so blessed to be part of the WATERWALK RECORDS family because they have given me an opportunity to express my heart through music and they made a way for one of my compositions to get out there,” shares the new Christian pop artist. “Sir Jungee Marcelo has been so patient from the start and it has been a fun process.”

Apart from fronting his alternative rock outfit of Mercury, Huang has always been a firm believer of Christian Music’s purpose in sending an important message to its core following—be it expressing one’s praise and devotion, or connecting people to God in unique ways. “Fortress” bridges his intention with both subtlety and clarity, engaging every part of his being to impart hope and positivity.

Huang co-produced “Fortress” with his former bandmate knōwmaad, deploying his soothing pipes with a sophisticated, modern approach. “I’ve always envisioned of having a Christian song that veers away from the usual Christian Contemporary sound,” says the prolific young artist. “We want something along the lines of Frank Ocean and Daniel Caesar, but not necessarily abandon the genuine message of the lyrics.”

4th Impact wows Korean crowd at the 2022 Asia Song Festival

The Filipino girl group returns to the global spotlight with their top-tier performance

Filipino girl group 4th Impact recently wowed the Korean audience with their impactful performance at the 2022 Asia Song Festival last October 14, 2022.

Drawing praises for showcasing their vocal chops and versatility, the award-winning sister act put their deft spin on BTS’ global smash “Dynamite,” while dishing out their own originals “Tapat Sa’yo” and “Here We Go” like pros.

K-Pop rock girl group Dreamcatcher releases 7th EP, [Apocalypse : Follow us]

K-Pop rock girl group Dreamcatcher reveals ‘[Apocalypse : Follow us]’, the second installment of their ‘Apocalypse’ trilogy, today via Sony Music Entertainment Korea. Having the ‘Apocalypse’ era first introduced through their last release, the new EP continues the series’ theme of raising environmental awareness and combating climate change, proposing Dreamcatcher’s vision to restore Earth to a cleaner and safer planet.

‘[Apocalypse : Follow us]’ serves Dreamcatcher’s unique sonic identity with the intro track “Intro : Chaotical X” opening up the EP with an edgy-techno based instrumental, then leading up to their title track “VISION”. Co-composed and arranged by electronica band Glen Check’s June One, “VISION” presents a dark, techno-infused/electronic sound with metal influences, containing Dreamcatcher’s message to join them and to follow their vision to combat environmental issues. The EP includes an alternative rock track “Fairytale” and a groovy rock track emphasizing the importance of self-love in “Some Love”. In addition, Dreamcatcher presents a beautiful ballad highlighting Dreamcatcher’s softer side through the track “Rainy Day” and finally closes out with “Outro : Mother Nature.”

Dreamcatcher has been taking a different approach by combining rock, metal, and electronica elements within their music. Their uniqueness has earned the attention of many and the seven-membered K-Pop rock girl group has been slowly but steadily hitting one milestone after another. Filipino five-piece band Bajula blends ‘80s pop with sophisticated quietude on new single “One and Done”

The retro-infused track is produced by Ean Mayor of UDD and mixed/mastered by sound engineering extraordinaire Emil Dela Rosa

Filipino five-piece band Bajula revisits ‘80s pop music with retro-soul leanings on their new single “One and Done.”

Initially written by Jolo “Frazier” Juatco in his own bedroom with a stripped-down, electronic setup, the groovy track evolved sonically just when the former duo recruited three more members to join the band, and have the track rearranged with a fuller, more dynamic sound.

With producer Ean Mayor of UDD, Dani Pajarillo, and sound engineer extraordinaire Emil Dela Rosa (Unique, Maris Racal, UDD) opening the creative floodgates at a more relaxed pace, “One and Done” feels like the sonic equivalent of a convertible ride in some faraway cityland. The song takes a page from the sophisticated instrumentation of bands such as The Blue Nile and Prefab Sprout, and unfolds with the swagger of ‘80s R&B groups like New Edition.

“The song is evidently well produced, mixed, and mastered compared to our early releases,” lead vocalist Alvin ‘Vertigo’ Guanlao points out. “Every session is like a master class. Ean is very professional and doesn't run out of ideas; he made the recording process easy by being precise and systematic. Emil, on the other hand, is a technical beast, it still blew my mind how fast he is on using the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) and is really a thespian at mastering songs. Overall, I could say that the band synergizes very well with them, and I hope they feel the same.”

Frazier credits the hard work and creativity that the five-member act brings to the table, and how their partners in producing the song elevated the track with layers of restraint and quietude. “This song also opened the rabbit hole of ideas towards the approach and arrangement of the next songs we plan to release in terms of arrangement and quality,” reveals the band’s resident songwriter.

Lyrically, the song articulates the ups and downs of being a ‘spare tire’ to someone. “The song was inspired by the word ‘options’, particularly in relationships,” shares Frazier. “I was evaluating a lot of options in my life during that time, and I kind of played with the idea of writing a song about being on the receiving end of being an ‘option.’ I also challenged to do a monologue type of approach in lyrics where the character speaks to himself, expressing emotions inside his head.”

“One and Done” follows the previously released singles “Bad Man” and “Catching You,” both receiving a considerable amount of radio airplay in the Philippines. It serves as their first single after transitioning into a five-piece alt/soul/pop collective, with Jolo “Frazier” Juatco on synths and vocals and Alvin “Vertigo” Guanlao on vocals,now joined by their music peers: Gideon “Biker Boy” Flores on drums, and Jed “Soy Boy” Tabago on guitars and keyboards, and Vic “Vicky” Asor on bass.

Leah Halili teams up with The Ransom Collective girls on breezy pop track “Clear ToMe”

Filipina singer-songwriter Leah Halili teams up with her fellow The Ransom Collective bandmates Lily and Muriel Gonzales on “Clear To Me,” a dreamy pop tune inspired by her relationship with now-husband, Nikee Banares.

Produced by Carlos Castano, Halili’s new single captures the feeling of romantic affection and how it blooms into something more divine over time. Buoyed by breezy chords and delicate melodies, “Clear To Me” is a beguiling piece of work that was written from the four corners of her bedroom—about the same time her debut single “Fourth of July” was made.

“I pitched this song to my bandmates Lily and Muriel because I knew that I wanted a warm and bright instrumental to add to the song,” says the Fourth of Julyindie pop artist. “With Lily in Indonesia and Muriel in France at the time, it was tricky trying to find the time to record but I’m so grateful to them for effortlessly adding layers of beautiful harmonies to the song. It was enjoyable working with my bandmates again because there’s a level of comfort that I wouldn’t have gotten from anyone else.”

With this particular track, Halili wanted a song that makes listeners feel like they’re in a coming-of-age romantic film, finding light in quiet contentment and earnest love. According to the folk-pop newcomer, “Clear To Me” uplifted her during those times when she missed home the most.

“It was the type of song that each verse and chorus came to me progressively as I was experiencing a totally different life from my life pre-pandemic,” the Halili shares. “Changing jobs, moving from place to place, trying to find myself in a completely different county, there were so many things I needed to adapt to but all the changes made me discover why I fell in-love with music in the first place. It was my safe place. It gave me the freedom to write what I felt and use the melodies in my head to express and relieve me from things around me I had no control over.”

Leah Halili is slated to release a series of volumes soon. She adds, “I want the audience to remember that I’m coming back for more meaningful, beautifully written songs that I hope everyone can relate to somehow.”

Sony Music Entertainment recently paid tribute to iconic superstar George Michael with a listening party featuring his re-released classic album Older and an exclusive premiere of Freedom Uncut—an acclaimed documentary that gives viewers a first-person account of his life as a pop legend, a music activist, and as a person coming to terms with love, sexuality, and celebrityhood.

The intimate celebration also marked the 25th anniversary of his landmark album Older, which was remastered for the very first time on digital and streaming formats. Dubbed Older (Expanded Edition), the remastered version also includes remixes, live versions, and B-Side tracks, along with the newly improved versions of the late singer-songwriter’s originals.

SPARK! is delighted to announce new funding from Sony Music Entertainment Philippines to champion young women’s rights and provide access to free and quality education, improved reproductive health products and services, as well as support for gender sensitive and responsive programs.      

As a new beneficiary, SPARK! Philippines will develop an initiative that capitalizes on the power of storytelling through film and music to showcase inspirational narratives of the young women they support. The selected girls will collaborate with a critically acclaimed female filmmaker and Sony Music Philippines artists to produce original short biopics or documentaries featuring impactful musical scores and theme songs. A separate series of short videos will also be made to showcase how Sony Music Philippines artists engage with the young women through their workshops and songwriting and recording sessions.

Still riding high on the global success of bona fide radio hit ‘Supermodel’ that now stands at 170M

global streams, Måneskin are continuing a phenomenal summer of worldwide domination. 2022 has

so far seen full-throttle, colossal headline shows and huge main stage festival sets at Lollapalooza to

over 65,000 fans where the band literally rocked the crowd up close and personal, Italy’s historic Circo

Sigala is the musical nom de plume of Bruce Fielder, a London-based house DJ, producer, and remixer. Launching his career with "Easy Love," a Jackson 5-sampling track which topped the charts in the U.K. in 2015, he continued releasing bright, sunny dance-pop tunes featuring a variety of guest vocalists and producers. His 2018 full-length Brighter Days included collaborations with Kylie Minogue, Craig David, Sean Paul, and Nile Rodgers, among many others. Filipino five-piece band NOBITA finds comfort amid life’s inevitable twists and turns on new single “Sa Ulan”

Filipino five-piece outfit NOBITA returns with a lighthearted folk-pop track that evokes the reassuring warmth of home and romance.

Their new song “Sa Ulan” finds comfort in knowing that there will always be someone willing to stand by your side when everything else doesn’t feel right.

According to vocalist/guitarist Jaeson Felismino, the lyrics of “Sa Ulan” was inspired by a pivotal moment in his lifeand it’s his way of expressing gratitude to that special someone who stayed and lifted him up on days when he felt down or unworthy of love.

“It’s comforting to have someone encourage you to be the best version of yourself,” Felismino reveals. “This song is my way of thanking that person, for inspiring me to aim for greater heights, and to believe in what I’m capable of as an individual, and as an artist.”

Veering away from the pop-rock grit of their previous releases, “Sa Ulan” weaves in effortlessly a more subdued musical direction while retaining the melodic smarts that defined some of their biggest hits to date. With acoustic guitars, a piano, and a cajon as part of the ensemble, the stripped-down ditty displays the band’s knack for simplicity and detail in the most riveting way possible.

“We had a lot of fun doing it,” shares Felismino. “It took us five days to wrap up the recording, but with the guidance of Isagani Palabyab, our producer, we were able to make gold out of something spare and unassuming.”

[October 6th, 2022] a-ha return to share their new single ‘You Have What It Takes’, which acts as the latest taster for their forthcoming album True North, which is released on October 21st, 2022.

‘You Have What It Takes’ follows recent single ‘I’m In’ and begins a new era for a-ha as they approach their forthcoming album. Their first collection of new songs since 2015’s Cast In Steel is more than a straightforward album, it is also a film capturing the band recording the songs during 2021 in Bodø, the Norwegian city located 90km above the Arctic Circle. “With every album we tweak it, to see if there’s a different way to go about it,” explains Paul. TheTrue North film was screened to audiences this week in over 400 cinemas across 29 countriesand will be available for rental and purchase from 21 October 2022.

The beautiful ‘You Have What It Takes’ fees like a-ha at their most vulnerable, with its intricate guitar strings and Morten’s unmistakable vocal. It’s an echo of hope, healing and recovery, uplifting the listener with the line “Don’t be afraid to fail or fall, everyone carries a weight. We learn to walk before we crawl, so do this for all of our sakes. You have what it takes.” The significance of the lyrics resonates globally and feel like strength and comfort against the current backdrop of such unprecedented times.

a-ha’s Magne Furoholmen explains, “'Oh, this world, like a wounded bird…’ 

We live in increasingly confusing and volatile times, and there are things we often forget to express enough - to each other, to our children, our loved ones, our friends, and the generation growing up. If we want changes for the better, it starts with people who care enough to stand up for their idealsand for the rest of us to support them. I have great hope for the future when I see the courage and conviction of the young. They have it, and so do you. YOU have what it takes!”

With what is their 11th studio album and also a very immediate document of its creation, a-ha have entered a new world. “First, we had the idea to record a studio session live,” says Paul. “Then, to film a studio session. That grew into more of a production with the Norwegian orchestra, the Arctic Philharmonic, who we have collaborated with.” It's all there in the film.

In the True North film, a-ha perform and record with the orchestra. Also caught on camera in the landscape around Bodø, Magne, Morten and Paul discuss True North. In recurring vignettes, actors portray life in the north. The multidimensional film describes a narrative arc embodying the spirit of the new songs, showing how all of us are connected to the environment. Long-time a-ha collaborator Stian Andersen is the director. “True North is a letter from a-ha, from the Arctic Circle, a poem from the far north of Norway with new music,” says Magne.

The songs on the record are imbued with a sense of place and a deep connection with how we interact with the environment. For the first time, a-ha show us where they are from, who they are, and how the connection between the two is unbreakable. It’s no wonder that True North is a-ha at their most revealing - never before has the spirit of a-ha been so exposed.

Balances are struck – between the fresh approach and the qualities inherent to a-ha, between the songs themselves and the overarching concept of True North. ‘You Have What It Takes’' continues this thrilling new chapter for band and nothing encapsulates it better.

Israel Ministry of Tourism and Cathay Pacific connects Filipinos To travel in Israel

Cathay Pacific in partnership with the Israel Ministry of Tourism (IMOT), recently hosted a business tourism networking event at The Peninsula Manila and Radisson Blu in Cebu for corporate guests, Cathay Pacific Members and select travel agency partners. 

The event called Israel Ministry of Tourism and Cathay Pacific Connect, focused on exploring the different facets of Israel as a destination for both business and leisure travellers. Special guest of honour was His Excellency Ilan Fluss, Ambassador of Israel to the Philippines. He shared fascinating insights on his country including some interesting historical background on the close ties between Israel and the Philippines. “I am aware that the Holy land is in the bucket list of Filipinos. But in addition to the traditional pilgrimage, I recommend that you also explore the modern side of Israel, especially our innovation and technology.’ Israeli Ambassador said. 

Mr. Sammy Yahia, IMOT’s Director of Tourism for India and the Philippines, gave a presentation on the diverse and unique places, experiences, and activities that one can expect in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and other cities in Israel. “Israel is a diverse country, wherein you can experience both desert and snow at the same time. Filipinos has a gift of visa free to Israel. So, we look forward in welcoming you in Israel”. 

Cathay Pacific in turn, shared a brief update on flight schedules from Manila & Cebu, good connections to worldwide destinations as well as recent developments in their Cathay membership programme. “We are pleased that we were able to bring together our corporate guests and agency experts through this event. Singaporean-Filipino pop star Ysa Yaneza releases music video for her new single “1Nightwitu”

Singaporean-Filipino singer-songwriter Ysa Yaneza has released the music video for her new single “1Nightwitu.” 

Helmed by new filmmaker Jaig D. Guzman, the visuals showcase the R&B/electro-pop artist having the time of her life with friends and a guy she just met in the club.

“For this music video, I was drawn to earthy tones, giving those late Y2K vibes,” says the indie pop star.  “What the director brought was kind of a modern twist to all of these nostalgic inspo that I had. I wanted the music video to really convey female empowerment.”

The music video was shot in Metro Manila, with locations that include a bohemian-inspired apartment and a neon-lit club. 

“1Nightwitu” is an island-tinged, dance-pop track that celebrates women empowerment and encourages young ladies from varying cultures and upbringing to embrace their sexuality and value their self-worth.

The upbeat jam is penned by Ysa Yaneza herself, and co-written/produced by LA-based artist Shubu, who has worked with international music acts such as  Paul Cherry, Anna Burch, and Dorian Electra. Grammy-nominated sound engineer Stuart Hawkes, who has shaped records by artists ranging from Charli XCX and Disclosure to Lorde and Mabel, also mastered the track, giving it a fuller, more intricate musical direction.

“1Nightwitu” is the official lead single of her upcoming self-titled EP, YSA, which follows her journey towards heartbreak, reinvention and womanhood.
