PREP SHARE NEW SINGLE "GETAWAY" FEATURING THAILAND'S PHUM VIPHURIT đŸ‡č🇭

February 22, 2024

LISTEN HERE

February 22, 2024 â€“ Singapore – London-based four-piece PREP have released a new single "Getaway" via Bright Antenna Records, featuring an artist their fans in Southeast Asia have been waiting for for a long time – the one and only Phum Viphurit from Thailand. "Getaway" is a track about the conflicting feelings of needing a break from a situation, but knowing you don’t want to leave it behind forever. Fans can listen to the song here: ffm.to/_getaway

On their collaboration with one of Southeast Asia's most sought-after indie artists, PREP shares, "We were on tour in Thailand - it was a pretty intense time for us, playing some of the biggest shows we’d done. But we’d been in touch with Phum and one afternoon he found us this studio where we could all go and hang out together. It was this beautiful hidden spot, a real retreat from the world, surrounded by greenery, with kids playing under the trees outside. And the song came together with him pretty much there and then, very quickly and simply."

PREP recently toured Asia in 2023 – they played at VERY Festival in Thailand before heading to China for a string of headline shows and finished off the run with Clockenflap in Hong Kong. They have over 500,000 monthly listeners and subscribers from Southeast Asia alone, and the band hallmarks their time building their fanbase in Asia as an important pivot where PREP’s sense of sonic possibility expanded. "At one point we thought PREP would just be a studio project," keyboardist Llywelyn ap Myrddin elaborates. “But we played gigs that went really well, and we spent some amazing time in Asia.”

In 2015, the four members of PREP came together to cut deep grooves that mine contemporary R&B and electronica while hearkening back to the soft, sheer sound of the late ’70s and early ‘80s—what some listeners have retroactively dubbed yacht rock. The love for that style united vocalist-lyricist Tom Havelock, keyboardist Llywelyn Ap Myrddin, drummer Guillaume Jambel, and producer Dan Radclyffe. PREP is pop music that feels tip-of-the-tongue familiar even though you’ve never heard it before.

The freshness of fusing well-worn genre tunes with modern sounds is a product of the distinct backgrounds that make up the group. Llywelyn has a classical music education in composition and piano; Guillaume moonlights as a house producer and DJ; Dan produces hip-hop; and Tom works as a pen-for-hire songwriter in the pop music world.

Filipino singer-songwriter and producer raven drops deluxe edition of his new album, Kinulayan

February 20, 2024

The young multi-hyphenate will be launching his latest record on February 21 at Balcony Music House in Makati City

Listen to the album’s new single “LML” and bonus track “AOLID”

Filipino singer-songwriter and producer raven unravels thecolors of life that appeared to have beautifully bloomed in the new album, Kinulayan, out today via Sony Music Entertainment.

According to raven, Kinulayan refers to someone whose dull, boring life brightened up after crossing paths with the person worth the risk in love.

The rising phenom wrote and produced Kinulayan with the utmost purpose of conveying happiness that radiates with positive emotions and expressions. A free-spirited record that bursts with hues and energy, Kinulayan allows listeners to find great pleasure in embracing the simple joys of life and the escape that it offers.

“The songs in the album reflect the different stages in a relationship,” the Balcony Music Entertainment act shares. “From catching feelings to wanting to spend the rest of your life with the other half, the record traces these developments from a romantic standpoint.”

Track list

The young newcomer’s second studio album features nine songs, with the addition of the bonus track “AOLID.” raven explains that the etymology of “AOLID” comes from the word “solid,” which he tends to mistype quite often. “It’s ismy way of reclaiming the term in all its imperfect glory, while embracing the expression to lift others up and rise against the odds.”

Other songs in the album include the focus track “LML,” which was penned during a very tumultuous phase in his personal life. On the bedroom-pop ditty, raven turns moroseness into a source of inspiration, paying tribute to that special someone who helped him recover from the rock bottom and gave him a reason to make meaningful memories again.

Check out the tracks from his new album:

1. May Sasabihin Lang

2. Tayo Parin Talaga

3. Sinta

4. Sunday

5. Biyahe

SB19’s Josh Cullen drops official remix of “Get Right,” featuring Filipino rapper Yuridope

February 18, 2024

P-Pop star Josh Cullen joins forces with Filipino rapper Yuridope for the official remix of “Get Right.”

Instantly hitting it off with undeniable chemistry, the duo rocked the remix with an insatiable drive to flip the beat, get the verses turned up, and deliver a performance that is equally compelling as the original.

“I’ve been eyeing a remix for 'Get Right' with a local artist, and boom, Yuridope pops up,” the lead rapper and vocalist of SB19 reveals. “The dude is not just talented; he is genuine. And that verse of his? It was like he blinked and boom, and it was done. Literal na naglabada lang. (He literally washed it out).”

The remix treatment serves as a collaborative effort with multi-talented producer Cursebox, who brought a reinvigorating spin to the source material and helped Josh realize his vision. The result is an inter-genre tweak that pushes the envelope forward as far as production is concerned.

Josh recounts, “Cursebox deconstructed the beat, experimenting with sounds and rhythms to breathe new life into the track. Throughout the process, we provided feedback, ensuring the arrangement aligned with our vision. In the end, Cursebox's unique touch added depth to the song, elevating it to new heights while respecting its roots."

Serving as a gateway to bridge the gap between hip-hop enthusiasts and his captured market, the reimagining of “Get Right” provides an exciting opportunity to introduce new elements to the music while also inviting fans from different genres to experience Josh’s sound in a fresh light.

Josh adds, “This collaboration opens doors to new connections and possibilities, enriching our musical journey and expanding our reach. And with this remix, we're kicking off a larger journey, pioneering a unique sub-genre I'd like to call ‘hip-pop,’ which promises to bring even more innovation and excitement to the music scene.”

“Get Right” finds the SB19 rapper and vocalist embracing his music journey while navigating the challenges of making a dent in a highly competitive industry as a solo act. The original version was written and helmed by Josh Cullen himself, with collaborators Ocho the Bullet andUK-based indie icon No Rome assisting with the production.

Josh Cullen and Yuridope’s remix of “Get Right” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

Popular love team Francine Diaz and Seth Fedelin star in NOBITA's "Tayo Na Lang" music video

February 16, 2024

The popular loveteam known as “FranSeth” was the band’s unanimous pick for the leads

Francine Diaz and Seth Fedelin take center stage asfriends who secretly like each other in the music video of NOBITA’s “Tayo Na Lang,” out today via Sony Music Entertainment.

This marks the second time that the popular loveteam known as “FranSeth” has starred in a music video, following their much-buzzed stint as a young couple inAce Banzuelo’s viral hit “Muli” in 2022.

According to MV director Jeff Valencia, Francine and Seth were unanimously the first choice of the band for this project.

“The members of NOBITA are fans of Franseth,” Valencia reveals. “But more than their preference, there’s something about Francine and Seth that exudes both chemistry and enigma. It felt like the song was specifically written for them. That’s how good and natural their performance was.”

Set in a slumber party with a group of friends enjoying a fun-filled nightcap, the visual narrative fits perfectly with the song’s heartfelt earnestness and feel-good vibe, but takes a different turn towards the end.

“The plot twist is something that is non-negotiable on our part,” shares lead vocalist and acoustic guitarist JaesonFelisimino. “The journey matters the most, for sure, but there’s so much weight in the things that we least expect. We’re grateful to our friend Jeff Valencia for turning our vision into a reality.”

Just in time for the Valentine season, NOBITA released “Tayo Na Lang” on all digital music platforms at midnight on February 14, 2024. The alt-pop ballad garnered significant attention on the day of its release, with #StreamTAYONALANGonSpotify becoming a trending topic.

“Tayo Na Lang” is written by Jaeson Felismino, SamAquino II, and Mark Quintero, with co-production by Brian Lotho. The track sounds classic NOBITA in terms of musicality and arrangement, creating a wonderfully dreamy backdrop that conveys those early days of passion and longing.

“We just want to make songs that reflect the state that we’re in,” shares NOBITA in a press statement. “We also care about delivering good songs that stand the test of time. We hope Tayo Na Lang makes the cut and will be remembered as the song that inspired our audience in a positive way.”

MAYA HAWKE ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM CHAOS ANGEL FOR MAY 31

February 16, 2024

NEW SINGLE “MISSING OUT”

WATCH VIDEO HERE

(Credit: Trevor Tweeten - download HERE)

Maya Hawke has released “Missing Out,” the first single from her upcoming album, Chaos Angel, to be released May 31st viaMom+Pop. Chaos Angel is the talented multi-hyphenate’s third album and follows the success of lauded sophomore full-length, Moss,  which spawned a viral hit in lead single “ThĂ©rĂšse”.  With production helmed by Moss co-songwriter and collaborator Christian Lee Hutson, and featuring contributions by longstanding collaborators Benjamin Lazar Davis and Will Graefe, Chaos Angel is a deeply beautiful, meditative album about falling in love, fucking it up, and getting back up again.

Still only 25 years old, Maya has received global acclaim for her exquisite songwriting and witty, narrative lyricism. “Missing Out” is a wry yet poignant song derived from a semester Maya spent living near her brother’s college campus and partying with his classmates, a belated attempt at the formative college experience she never personally had. The track comes replete with a science-fiction influenced video directed by Alex Ross Perry.

PRE-SAVE ‘CHAOS ANGEL’ HERE

Of the song’s storyline, Maya says, “There was actually a girl who went to Brown, where my brother goes to college, and we were all going around saying what our wish was for ourselves. She said, I want to write the next great American novel. It was the moment where I felt older than everyone because I laughed so hard. I was like, “You are so far down the wrong track!” Wish to write a novel. That would be a miracle. Don’t wish to write the next great American novel, that’s a nightmare! It made me feel I actually am a different place in my life than these people I was around. It totally inspired this whole song.”

Chaos Angel takes the spare, viscerally honest songwriting Maya has made her name on and goes deeper, bolder. Both her most sonically sophisticated and thematically nuanced collection to date, it feels like a culmination. Across these 10 songs, Maya catalogs upheavals, revelations, foibles, and broken promises, all while navigating the patterns we repeat while growing older, wandering astray, and finding our way back to some core understanding of ourselves.

Maya imagined a figure raised to believe they were a god of love, only to move through the world and realize they were instead leaving wreckage and ruin in their wake. After descending into self-loathing, the chaos angel comes to a new conclusion. “On the journey home, she goes back through all the places she thought she destroyed,” Maya explains. “And in the rubble, wonder and beauty and magic grew.” It’s a parallel to Maya’s own experience across the album, snapshots leading to a new sense of self. The chaos angel watches over it all — a figure part guardian, part alter-ego, part imaginary friend.

Chaos Angel is also a document of Maya coming more fully into her own as a musician. Many of these tracks are still anchored by acoustic guitar and Maya’s graceful yet conversational vocals, but their surroundings are more intricate and lush than ever before.

At first glance, there are scenes just as sad as those on Blush and Moss, but Chaos Angel is an altogether happier album. Through these songs, Maya accepts the cycles we travel, the things we can leave behind and the things that will always be with us, before concluding: “The only thing to regret is the time I’ve spent regretting.” That’s what Chaos Angel became in the end: a portrait of a person, complicated and still searching, but evolving.

Maya Hawke and her band will be performing at Carnegie Hallin New York City as part of the Tibet House Benefit Concerton February 26th alongside Joan Baez, Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson and Maggie Rogers. Tickets are available HERE.

             â€‹

PRAISE FOR MAYA HAWKE:

“Throughout ‘Moss,’ Hawke’s earnest, sincere lyricism interlocks the public and private, overlapping reality and fiction to reflect how she has had to negotiate both spaces in life.”

- Pitchfork

“With a soprano voice like a certain warmth that spills from department store speakers, she’s established a sound that’s wholly her own and still blossoming.”

- FLOOD Magazine

“Hawke has blossomed into an increasingly excellent songwriter.”

- NME

RECENT PHILIPPINE VISIT INSPIRES MBNEL “JUST LIKE YOU” RELEASE

February 12, 2024

Stream “Just Like You”- HERE

Watch “Just Like You” Music Video- HERE

Taking great inspiration from his most recent visit to his motherland, Filipino-American rap artist MBNel released his latest single “JUST LIKE YOU” via US label EMPIRE (Tyga, Fireboy DML, Tink, Amber Liu, Alextbh, Afgan).

This new single puts MBNel’s artistry on full display with a unique beat and unapologetic lyrics that perfectly reflects life in Manila for the Filipino masses. In fact, the proud Fil-American rapper features everyday life in the Philippine urban jungle for the song’s official video which was filmed in Manila’s slums and old railways, with MBNel playfully chilling with Pinoy folks and kids in the streets as a proud tribute to his heritage.

JUST LIKE YOU’s music video shows a rather honest depiction of the hard life that Filipinos living below the poverty line have to deal with, which they resiliently overcome day after day by finding reasons to smile, survive, and thrive even amidst dire situations—a typical trademark that Filipinos are known for all over the world. It was a strategic choice by MBNel and his team to show this side of the Philippines instead of the country’s postcard-worthy locations. After all, this particular song is about coming to terms with one’s not-so-good side and dealing with it head-on instead of sweeping it under the rug.

With lyrics such as “It’s crazy I be praying, but I sin too”, the song shows MBNel’s unmistakable Filipino side—a man who prays (how often do we hear “praying” in a rap song?), but is well aware of his sins and makes no attempt to deny them. The line “You broken (tryin’ to) heal too” lets his Pinoy fans know that he empathizes with them, and the song further emphasizes this with the words “I know you damaged, well baby me too” in an honest admission by the rapper that he’s no different when it comes to having problems.

"I’m trying to show that I share some of the same problems that some of my fans might be going through or have been through. This video demonstrates that we are not that different regardless of fame, money or whatever”, shares MBNel.

The celebrated rapper further shares, “I loved coming back to visit the Philippines; my culture is something I’d love to keep learning about and now I want to come back and stay longer.”

JUST LIKE YOU is out now on all digital streaming platforms.
