Along with the release of the new EP this week, grentperez announced his first-ever live performance in Asia. He is set to perform in Manila on 16 June, at Eastwood Central Plaza. The show is free for fans to attend on a first-come-first-served basis.
Conceived as a means to get out of a songwriting rut, ‘When We Were Younger’ is a seven-song collection centered around the concept of nostalgia. Motivated by a desire to stave off cynicism and embrace the carefree creativity of childhood, in his own words ‘When We Were Younger’ “is a collection of music each relating to figures of the past, whether it be in love, loss, families and friendship."
On the focus track "Stuck On You", grentperez’s versatility exhibits itself repeatedly, presenting a strumming shuffler that rides sparkling keys and a spotless falsetto to tell a story of memories that just won't shake. Recalling old memories, grentperez explains “I wrote this song the first time I had been away from my friends at home for more than a month. I felt like I left just as things were getting good, so this song was a recollection of fond memories and a call to make new ones and wanted to speak about making up for the time we’d lost since I'd been gone.”
Throughout ‘When We Were Younger’, grentperezdisplays a director’s knack for world-building where the discrete elements throughout the tracks are as disparate as one could imagine but together everything makes sense - different musical gestures and lyrics stimulating long-dormant memories while simultaneously providing a soundtrack for new ones. Fusing the signifiers of a wide variety of nostalgic sounds: his beloved bossa nova, yes, but also sprightly Philadelphia soul, the swelling strings of golden-era Hollywood, even the soundtracks and general vibe of 90s romcoms - the bold approach hits once you press play on the EP and the opening track busts in with a psychedelic spaghetti western fanfare. “I wanted to try to create a THX-style intro to the project,” he elaborates. “Kind of recreate the childhood thrill of booting up a VHS tape.”
Inspired by his parents' record collection that soundtracked his childhood (Dionne Warwick, The Carpenters, The Bee Gees + more), the intuitive and unexpected sonic detours throughout ‘When We Were Younger’ are what make grentperez’s breezy, lithe pop songs feel full of life. “Connecting with what I remember as a really lovely childhood grounds me in the real world and keeps me thinking of the important friends and family in my life,” grentperez explains, “it keeps me from getting ahead of myself.”

He quickly rose to fame in 2009 with his Top 10 debut single "Birthday Sex," a lewd lullaby of sorts that sounded like nothing else at the time, optimizing the R&B artist's slinking vocals and explicit wordplay. The slow jam effectively launched the Chicago native's career, one that has been studded with additional and quite different Top 10 hits - "Down on Me" and "Don't Tell 'Em," among several more gold and platinum singles. "Jeremih" (2009), "All About You" (2010), and "Late Nights: The Album" (2015), his first three LPs were similarly awarded, while "Planez" earned Jeremih a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance. "Late Nights with Jeremih" and "Late Nights: The Album" became the first two parts of a trilogy with the August 2016 release of the commercial mixtape "Late Nights: Europe." At 15, you could find SK8 in his room writing lyrics, and by his sophomore year, you could find him handing out CDs in high school. The 23-year-old moved to Los Angeles from Omaha, Nebraska, and linked with the venerable Taylor Gang, first breaking into the mainstream with his gold-certified single, "Like That," with Jack & Jack and opening for revered rap icons like Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, and Rae Sremmurd. SK8 began building a dedicated fanbase of dreamers who related to his message of seizing every moment long before his eventual move to LA. Shortly after founding his own imprint - Alignment, and formally signing a joint venture with Atlantic Records via James McMillan's ART@WAR, SK8 released his major label debut EP, sk8sounds, which was buttressed by the standout singles "Omme (feat. Wiz Khalifa)," "XXX" and "Mood (feat. YK Osiris)." Over a year later, SK8 has turned a new page in his career with his first single of 2021, "Famous (feat. Tyla Yaweh)," and its associated forthcoming project, which finds the rising singer seamlessly blending punk/rock instrumentation with his hip-hop origins, the latest but not last development in SK8's rapidly evolving artistry.

Filipino bedroom-pop soloist raven relives teenage romantic encounter in new song “Sinta”
Filipino singer-songwriter/producer raven expresses affection towards his special someone in the new single “Sinta,” out today via Sony Music Entertainment.
According to raven, the song is inspired by slice-of-life anime shows and his personal encounters with love.
“On Sinta, I’ve traveled back in time to relive some of my most memorable romantic experiences,” narrates the Balcony Entertainment act. “It’s my way of honoring teen love in its purest form.”
The bedroom-pop heartthrob exudes a breadth of impressive musicianship with his mix of buoyant melodies, irresistible rap verses, and lighthearted arrangements.
As expected, raven channels his vibey, chill side in a song that sounds delightfully homemade, but certainly isn’t lacking in charisma and confidence.
“Sinta” is written, produced, mixed, and mastered by raven himself, with guidance from Rico Blanco, his constant mentor and idol.
“Sir Rico helped me polish the material without sacrificing what makes it a standout,” shares raven. “He was generous enough in sharing his ideas and suggestions when it comes to music.”

Filipino newcomer Benj Pangilinan steps into the spotlight with debut single “Love, That’s Rare”

Benj Pangilinan forges his own path in the music industry as one of Sony Music Entertainment’s newest recording artists in 2023.

In terms of a production standpoint, it's all about coming to a mutual understanding of the vision for the song and developing that trust with each other.”

September 22nd will see the release of Kylie’s brand new studio album, 'Tension’, a record of pleasure-seeking, empowered dance floor bangers and sultry pop cuts.
Discussing ‘Tension’, Kylie says,
“I started this album with an open mind and a blank page. Unlike my last two albums there wasn’t a ‘theme’, it was about finding the heart or the fun or the fantasy of that moment and always trying to service the song. I wanted to celebrate each song’s individuality and to dive into that freedom. I would say it’s a blend of personal reflection, club abandon and melancholic high.”
Kylie has worked with a number of producers on the album with seven of the tracks being produced and co-written with her long-time collaborators, Biff Stannard and Duck Blackwell.
Discussing the recording process, Kylie says,
“I loved being back in the studio with my collaborators but was also able to benefit from remote recording, which we have all got used to – my mobile studio never left my side for a year and a half ! The album is a mix of songs I have written and songs which really spoke to me. Making this album helped me navigate challenging times and celebrate the now. I hope it accompanies listeners on their own journeys and becomes part of their story.”
