ADB Signs $131 Million Loan to Support the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal Upgrade, Enhance International Trade
NEW DELHI, INDIA (23 January 2023) — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Nhava Sheva Freeport Terminal Private Limited (NSFTPL) signed a $131 million loan to upgrade the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal located in Navi Mumbai Maharashtra to enhance international trade in India through efficient, transparent, and state-of-the-art logistics infrastructure.
The financing package comprises $61.4 million from ADB’s ordinary capital resources and $69.6 million from Leading Asia’s Private Infrastructure Fund (LEAP) administered by ADB. The funds will be used to upgrade existing berths and yards and install additional energy efficient equipment such as electric quay cranes. These upgrades will expand the terminal’s container handling capacity and attract vessels operating on important international shipping lanes.
NSFTPL is a special purpose vehicle jointly owned by J M Baxi Ports and Logistics Limited (JMBPL) and CMA Terminals.
“Global trade and supply chains are vulnerable to shocks, and enhancing countries’ capacity for trade is critical to the region’s recovery from COVID-19 and its ongoing prosperity, “ said ADB Vice-President for Private Sector Operations and Public–Private Partnerships Ashok Lavasa. “Long-term financial support from ADB can boost economic competitiveness in India by developing world-class mega ports and boosting the efficiency of containerized cargo terminal operations.”
“We are absolutely delighted to sign the Financing Agreement with ADB, which is the largest loan agreement signed by us so far, and we appreciate ADB’s commitment and agility in bringing this deal to a smooth closure in record time,” said NSFTPL Board member and JMBPL Managing Director Dhruv Kotak. “Nhava Sheva Freeport Terminal is a key terminal for the country and this deal underscores India’s potential in becoming a $10 trillion economy by 2035. We are proud to have ADB support us in our endeavor to make international trade seamless, and this partnership is a testimony of our shared value system of the highest level of governance, transparency, and compliance” he added.
JMBPL is a part of J M Baxi Group, a 106-year-old marine services, ports, logistics and technology conglomerate offering the entire range of logistics services including port facilities such as container and multi-cargo port terminals, container freight stations and inland container depots, niche logistics services for project and bulk cargo, offshore installations and ship agency services. CMA Terminals was established in 2012 and is engaged in the development, construction, acquisition, and operations of container terminals. Jarlo Bâse refuses to adhere to conventions on haunting, genre-defying track “O Sana, Hosanna”
The talented singer-songwriter/producer is set to launch his first single of the year at Social House on January 20, 2023
Filipino artist Jarlo Bâse deftly incorporates contemporary pop, R&B, gospel, and alternative music influences with haunting soundscapes on his new single “O Sana, Hosanna”—out today via Sony Music Entertainment.
The song draws listeners to its emotionally powerful narrative while making great strides in terms of songwriting and production.
According to the talented music act, the concept of his new track came from his filmmaker/choreographer friend Jobert Lachica, who pitched a story about the cycle of abuse and being abused, or, in the words of Charles Eads, the theme surrounding the phrase “hurt people hurt people.”
“So, from there, I thought of sharing the perspective of someone who is going through a dark phase in his/her/their life, and what it might feel like to constantly have an ongoing battle with one’s self,” Jarlo explains. “As someone who has experienced anxiety and had to overcome a depressive phase in my life, I had to channel these thoughts and feelings in my writing, while reliving those moments in my head. It’s a pretty dark way to writea song, but somehow it felt therapeutic knowing that there is a way out of this darkness.”
“O Sana, Hosanna” was written Jarlo Bâse, who also serves as the 2023 single’s sole producer. He constructeda sonic equivalent of a battlefield, or to quote him directly, “a scene from an anime where the main character is struggling to break his limits in a fight.”
The Manila-based singer-songwriter adds, “I stayed true to the essence and concept of the track. There were parts where there’s tension, because I want to reflect how anxiety and bad thoughts sound like, when they’re presented as music ideas. Hence, the intensifying beat and brooding vocal arrangements.”
“O Sana Hosanna” will be launched for the first time on a live stage this January 20, 2023, at the Social House in Makati City. Expect a soulful but intimate performance of the track, as well as some of the new and old tunes from Jarlo Bâse himself. Joining the Filipino act for the single launch and birthday gig are some of the most notable Filipino acts and newcomers, including Paolo Sandejas, raven, Ysanygo, of Mercury, and Any Name's Okay.Tickets are available here.

I was recently at an event when a colleague approached me to ask if my job as a writer is all there is to me. To be exact, “𝘠𝘢𝘯 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢 𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘸𝘢 𝘮𝘰?” was his question.
I replied that I am a published author and a freelance writer with my own website. And yet, this colleague did not seem content with my answer. Was it because I was a woman, and he was a man? Or was it because I was at an event, having the time of my life and enjoying myself without a care in the world?
To be fair, I did not take offense at his question per se, but I found the “𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨” part bothersome. I have always been seen through the lens of the overachieving people in my life. I know that I cannot please everyone, especially those whose idea of success is unrealistically limited.
I took advantage of technology to learn how to write and to diversify my career. I made the leap into being a published author during the pandemic, which was a teachable moment in history. I carved out a career for myself, which was vastly different from the expectations and perceptions of society at large. I am not going to change my career path because I am happy as it is.
Of course, I am not closing my doors on opportunities that will come my way. I have built a career on saying yes to opportunities offered to me due to my hard work and preparedness. I think that it is crucial to be prepared for every opportunity, and I believe that while I am lucky enough to do what I love, I also did everything to be ready for this life.
I have worked in the corporate world for many years and learned how to thrive in a competitive and structured environment. This led me to job-craft and upskill, and I am thankful that I did. Now, I write with ease because of my years of training and experience. And I can say that writing is hard work.
There are many skills involved with writing a book; I am enjoying the journey because this is what I really want. I do not think that there is a reason to say “𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨” to someone who exercises creativity, measured execution, and discipline on the job. Writing is an honorable profession, and it is my duty to continue educating myself and the people around me that this is a job that merits respect and acceptance.
I am a writer, a published author, and a woman. There is no room for “𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨” in my life and career.
It is not just writers who get looked down upon by society. I can only speak for myself, but I have observed many creatives undergo the same treatment. This is especially prevalent during gatherings and reunions. This is the part where I would like to appeal to everyone to stop judging people for what they do. Instead, talk to people about their interests, causes that they support, and the values they uphold.
It is no longer proper to say “𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨” to anyone. People are enough with the way they are. There is no other way to say it, and there is no work that will justify the usage of the word “𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨”.
I believe that the “𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨” mentality reflects on people from another time when there was only one straight path to success. I am glad that today’s youth is changing how success should look like nowadays.
Not everyone is born to be in the corporate world. Not everyone is cut out to have a professional license. And not everyone is expected to meet the expectations of those who came before them. Life happens. Change happens. In the greater scheme of things, there is no room for “𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨”.
When you see me or another writer, you should stop asking if “𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘬𝘰”. Instead, just ask me how I am. I will gladly answer you with a smile.

Barbie Almalbis, Mark Escueta, Pochoy Labogand Jarlo Bâse team up for inspiring powerhouse track “PIRASO”
The star-studded tune emphasizes the importance of faith during trying times
Alt-rock icon Barbie Almalbis, Rivermaya lead singer/drummer Mark Escueta, Dicta License vocalist Pochoy Labog, and fast-rising singer-songwriter/producer Jarlo Bâse have collaborated on a soulful track that unfolds with tenderness and power in equal measure.
Released under WATERWALK RECORDS, “PIRASO” tackles the journey of healing and spirituality amidst the crippling fear of uncertainty that all four artists have personally experienced in recent years. The song not only articulates the collective frustrations and sacrifices that people have to go through in order to cope with depression caused by the pandemic, but also reveals how faith has become a source of comfort and strength during trying times.
According to Almalbis, producer-extraordinaire JungeeMarcelo was responsible for bringing them together. She immediately said yes after finding out about the other musicians involved in the project and what the music stands for.
“I have always been a fan of Mark and Pochoy, and I was also looking forward to working with Jarlo, because Mr. Jungee really looked up to him as a young producer,” the Silaw hitmaker admits. “We started writing the song virtually, just exchanging ideas via a chat group, then eventually met up in person to tie everything together.”
Despite their busy schedules, the four powerhouse acts managed to squeeze time to record the song before the year ended. Almalbis reveals that the entire team behind“PIRASO” felt a strong sense of achievement with how the final product turned out. “On the day we finished writing the song, we made a makeshift vocal booth in our house,which turned out to be a great sounding room for vocals. Pochoy then went home to do the bass track. A few days later, we hung out at Mark’s studio to finalize the drum parts. I did a bit more guitar work at home, and Jarlo did the rest of the production, recording his vocals and adding piano, samples, and synths in his own place.”
Dicta License’s Pochoy Labog admits that the collaboration was out of his comfort zone, but the experience, according to him, was an absolute joy. “We flowed so well and nothing was forced. Writing the lyrics was like being in a discipleship group or household –we plugged in words while sharing life experiences and our own walks with God. It was one of the most profound moments in my musical journey.”
Surprisingly, the all-star collaboration turned out to be a very moving piece that raises the bar for all the musicians involved in terms of songwriting and artistry. Bâse, in particular, was grateful and honored to be part of this massive endeavor that brought a different kind creative synergy and excitement.
“I’ve always looked up to Sir Jungee and everyone at WATERWALK/Sony Music for their love and excellence in making music,” says the young singer-songwriter. “I hope people would enjoy and be blessed with the song we all made together.”
“PIRASO” is also Mark Escueta’s first project with WATERWALK RECORDS. He is thankful to be part of a music project that aims to inspire people from all walks of life. “It's an honor and a blessing to be part of this project and I know that WATERWALK RECORDS will continue to touch so many lives in the years to come.”

ADB Invests $25 Million in Quadria Capital Fund III for Health Care Investments in Developing Asia
MANILA, PHILIPPINES (17 January 2023) — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $25 million equity investment with Quadria Capital Fund III LP (Quadria III) to enhance the quality, accessibility, and affordability of health care in Southeast Asia and South Asia by supporting the growth of health care companies in these regions.
Managed by Quadria Capital, Quadria III has a target size of $800 million, which will be used to provide fresh capital to established companies operating in health care services, pharmaceuticals and life sciences, medical devices and consumables, health technology, as well as consumer health care distribution and retail segments. Average investments are expected to range from $70 million to $200 million, with larger investments expected to mobilize co-investment capital. The fund may also selectively invest in early-stage health care companies.
“As one of the few healthcare funds dedicated to Southeast Asia ADB is excited to partner with Quadria Capital in this important sector,” said ADB Private Sector Investment Funds and Special Initiatives Division Director Janette Hall. “Through its investment, ADB will help Quadria III implement a gender impact tool to identify health care investments that address gender inequalities, promote women as a source of innovation, and support women’s empowerment.”
Founded in 2012, Quadria Capital is a private equity firm based in Asia focusing on health care, with over $ 1.6 billion in assets under management. This is ADB’s first investment in a health care fund managed by Quadria Capital.

Mimi Webb projects a voice as magnetic, massive, and magical as her personality. As “the girl next door” with a hell of vocal range, she’s quick to laugh, will let you know precisely what’s on her mind, and isn’t afraid to be heard. Originally hailing from the UK town of Canterbury, the pop singer and songwriter turns up the volume on every emotion with skyscraping runs and open-heart honesty.
Inspired by the likes of Amy Winehouse, Emelie Sandé, and Sam Smith, she started writing songs of her own at 13-years-old in diaries before eventually learning guitar. Around the same time, she enrolled in The BRIT School—known for alumni such as Adele, Amy Winehouse, Jessie J, and more. Jason Marvin travels back in time with the release of his 2023 single “Oras”
His new single is accompanied by a music video starring social media influencer Albert Nicolas and up-and-coming TV/film actress Roxie Smith
Filipino singer-songwriter Jason Marvin starts 2023 on a bright note with the release of his new single "Oras.”
Brimming with lush, gentle arrangements and laid-back vocals, the piano-driven ballad finds the Cornerstone Entertainment artist traveling back in time in an attempt to amend a romantic relationship. It also touches on the idea of admitting one’s mistakes and using them as motivation to become a better person.
To quote Jason Marvin, "Mistakes will be made and regrets will always be a part of life, but we must learn to live with it, grow stronger, and continue singing the songs that we’re meant to sing."
According to the singer-songwriter behind Gain, "Oras" is the first song that he wrote where the music video concept came first. "I imagined this scene where a guy who can time travel keeps on failing in his relationship. No matter what he does, even if he tries a hundred times, if it’s not meant to be, it’s not meant to be."
Directed by King Bingcang and written by Jason himself, the music video conveys the essence of the lyrics in a straightforward manner. It stars social media influencer Albert Nicolas as a time traveler trying to win back the love of his life, and up-and-coming actress Roxie Smith, who is repeatedly pursued in the story.
"I still can’t believe we were able to shoot everything in one day," says the Manila-based producer and singer-songwriter. "Everyone was just so light and fun to work with. Albert’s humor makes everyone forget that they're tired, while Miss Roxie’s positive mood from start to finish was very contagious."
"Oras" is written and produced by Jason himself and co-arranged by Nick Lazaro, a prolific producer who has worked with a diverse crop of musicians ranging from alternative rock outfit Oh, Flamingo! to hyper-pop soloist Pikoy.
"Arranged by me and Nick Lazaro, I wanted to achieve this nostalgic old sounding piano (like the ones in your lola’s old house)," the folk-pop singer-songwriter/producer adds. "Nick came in and put on the drums, bass guitar, and choir voices that made it all sound magical."

Miley Cyrus releases new single “Flowers”

Multi-platinum selling recording artist, songwriter, and trailblazer Miley Cyrus has released “Flowers” the first single from her forthcoming eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation, available globally on March 10th. The track finds Miley opining on self-love and courage, noting that “Started to cry / But then I remembered / I can buy myself flowers / Write my name in the sand” before ultimately and powerfully declaring “I can love me better than you can.”
The themes of the song and buzz surrounding the music led fans to declare that 2023 is the year of Miley.
Unsurprisingly, Miley has delivered fans a fashion-forward video for “Flowers.” The video was created by Miley and directed by Jacob Bixenman, with Stephen Galloway serving as creative movement director.
There have been many visuals for Endless Summer Vacation; Miley first announced the album with a powerful trailer. The album cover, photographed by Brianna Capozzi and fully executed by Miley without visual effects, was also revealed. Recorded in Los Angeles and produced with Kid Harpoon, Greg Kurstin, Mike WiLLMade-It and Tyler Johnson, Miley describes the album as her love letter to LA.
