Filipino singer-songwriter/producer raven puts a modern spin on Pinoy-style courtship withnew song “Hara”
After racking up more than 10 million streams with his debut EP Lika Na, rising singer-songwriter/producer ravenreimagines traditional ‘harana’ with a modern twist on his new single “Hara”—out today via Sony Music Philippines.
Bringing the distinct practice of Pinoy-style courtship to an entirely new audience, raven serenades the object of his affection with lyrics that showcase his sincere intentions.
“Unlike some of the songs that I’ve written so far, most of which are mere expressions of admiration, this particular track chronicles the experience of wooing someone in hopes of capturing their heart,” the young musician shares. “It’s an expression of sentimental nature, but it also comes from a place of humility on the suitor’s end.”
With its delicate fusion of lo-fi elements, hip-hop beats, and intricate guitar melodies, “Hara” conveys romantic earnestness from a better, brighter time. It blurs genre lines without the necessary complications: a gift of effortlessness that raven seemed to adopt in his previous music releases.
“I want to maintain the ‘harana’ feel by putting laid-back guitar sounds to the forefront, while subtly incorporating drums, percussions, trumpets, and modern rap lines into the mix,” says raven. “Like in my last album, the song was just recorded in my bedroom. As always, I have to wait for the household and neighbors to quiet down before I can start working.”
raven is slated to co-headline Balcony Entertainment Live, a concert happening on June 11, Saturday at the Music Museum. Featuring performances from some of the biggest and most promising music acts from the country, he’s set to share the stage with artists such as Rico Blanco, Ebe Dancel, Maris Racal, Zild, and Never TheStrangers. Tickets are available here.
“Hara” is out now on all digital music platforms via Sony Music Philippines. Watch out for the official lyric video on raven’s YouTube channel.

Asia’s Soul Supreme KZ Tandingan hits up with global electronic producers GATTÜSO and Frogmonster on “Somebody Like You”
Filipino pop/R&B artist KZ Tandingan teams up with international producers GATTÜSO and Frogmonster on the clubby electronic anthem “Somebody Like You,” out now via Liquid State and Sony Music.
With a collective 1.75 billion streams between them over the last 2 years, the unexpected trio pushes the boundaries of dance music with a truly global collaboration that features two versions: one in English and another one in Mandarin.
The trio has created a progressive banger full of high emotions and feels across each version, with the lyrics highlighting that special moment when you realize that it’s possible to end up with your partner forever.
“Somebody Like You” has something for everybody, and arrives with a lyric video in tow that showcases a fake dating app where anybody can find the love they are looking for.
With collaborations under his belt with the likes of R3HAB, Steve Aoki and Nicky Romero, GATTÜSO has made a name for himself as one of the foremost electronic producers based out of the United States in the last few years, as he continues to bring his A-game to every single he is on.
Tagged as ‘Asia’s Soul Supreme,’ KZ Tandingan delivers indelibly catchy music that has spanned pop, jazz, folk, and R&B, and with this latest release, now adds the dance genre and another new language to her vast music catalogue.
Last but by no means least, Chinese duo Frogmonster, are two friends who connected at university. Having made their name in China with hit record “Remember our Summer,” which is now at over 1.4 billion streams in China, they continue to build their name as one of the most exciting progressive house duos across Asia.
With separate acoustic versions ready for release soon, “Somebody Like You,” is set to pull at your heartstrings over the summer months ahead.

Israel Builds Bridges of Innovation with Filipino Startups
The Embassy of Israel in the Philippines, in partnership with IdeaSpace-QBO Innovation Hub (QBO), hosted a Qlitan Networking night to motivate and uplift the startup industry in the Philippines.
“Israel is known as the startup nation with over 6,000 active startups. We have built a strong ecosystem joined by various innovation key players. We are even shifting from start-up nation to building a smart-up nation to sustain innovation and prepare in addressing future challenges,” Ambassador Ilan Fluss said in his opening remarks. “We would like to share the success story of Israel as a startup nation and create partnerships with the innovation community in the Philippines. We have to build bridges of innovation between our countries to contribute to addressing the development challenges of the Philippines,” Ambassador Fluss added.
Around 50 Filipino founders of startup companies and investors in the Philippines participated in the networking night. The event aimed to connect Filipino startups and key players of the innovation community and to come up with a collaboration between Filipino and Israeli startups. The night also featured a net café session wherein Philippine start-up founders engaged with Israeli businessmen and officials to exchange views and best practices in the industry as well as find ways to work together.
“We need to build a bridge between our two countries so that startups can benefit and gain business,” Butch Meily, president of IdeaSpace Foundation and QBO said. QBO is the Philippines' first public-private partnership platform for Filipino startups led by the IdeaSpace Foundation and supported by JP Morgan Foundation, the Philippine Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). It connects and develops the local startup ecosystem.
Benny Schlick, founder and managing director of Innovation without Border, joined the networking night via Zoom and shared the Israeli innovation ecosystem’s recipe.
Ambassador Ilan Fluss also announced during the event that Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez signed an agreement with the chairman of the Israeli innovation authority to cooperate in technological innovation and research and development. “With this, we are opening more bridges to partner with you and build a stronger startup industry,” Ambassador Fluss shared.
The Qlitan Networking night was held on June 7 at QBO Innovation Hub.

Filipino-Norwegian singer-songwriter Clinton Kane reminisces on his past with new song “14”
Clinton Kane has shared “14,” the latest song lifted from his forthcoming debut album due this summer via Columbia Records. The reflective record transports listeners to Clinton’s 14-year-old self and follows his inner monologue as he grows into adulthood. Listen HERE and watch the accompanying official video HERE.
In speaking about the new song, Clinton says: “I’ve teased this song for officially a year; I wish I took another year to tease, but I would’ve gotten cancelled. Can’t believe ‘14’ is finally out!
This song breaks my heart into a million pieces every single time I listen to it. I wrote it 2 years ago when I was at my lowest with myself – doubting every single thing about me: how I grew up, where I’m from, and who I am. This song took a year to write, with 30 different choruses and verses being written to this track. I hope you find peace when you listen to this song and know that you are not alone in this world.”
Earlier this year, the 2022 Vevo DSCVR Artist to Watch embarked on a sold-out North American headline tour. The 23-date run brought the Norwegian-Filipino singer/songwriter to Chicago, Boston, New York, Nashville, and more before concluding at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre. Clinton Kane will head back out on the road this fall for select tour dates throughout Canada. Visit https://www.clintonkane.com/tour/ for tickets and more information.
Stay tuned for more from Clinton Kane coming soon!
About Clinton Kane:
Clinton Kane is one of those people who actually does all of the things the rest of us wish we could do, such as hightail it to Santorini alone with nothing more than a backpack... The Norwegian-Filipino singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist pens pop with “chords that soothe you and lyrics that bite you.” While growing up between Perth, Australia and The UK, the self-taught singer, guitarist, pianist, and drummer ultimately found solace in music. Writing and performing quelled growing anxiety and stress as he went from popular YouTube covers to a prolific series of independent originals. Signing to Columbia Records, Clinton turned heads with his this is what it feels like EP in 2019. To kick off 2020, he lent his voice to Martin Garrix’s smash “Drown” followed by original solo songs “i don’t want to watch the world end with someone else” and “Fix It To Break It.” After amassing more than 752 million global streams, selling out headline tour dates across North America, and receiving acclaim from NME, Billboard and more, he might just inspire you to live a little louder with his highly anticipated debut album MAYBE SOMEDAY IT’LL ALL BE OKAY led by singles “Chicken Tendies,” “I GUESS I’M IN LOVE,” “GO TO HELL,” and “14.”

Ace Banzuelo’s viral smash “Muli” is now the top OPM song on Spotify Philippines this week!
The dreamy track continues to drive impressive numbers as it reaches the top 3 of both Spotify Top 200 Philippines chart and Spotify Viral 50 Philippines chart, respectively.
Ace Banzuelo’s “Muli” is officially the No. 1 most streamed OPM song in Spotify Philippines this week.
Initially released in 2020, the eloquently produced track has found renewed popularity online due to the song’s organic amount of support on short-form video app, TikTok, as well as other social media platforms.
“I absolutely have no idea about its virality,” says the multi-talented producer and singer-songwriter. “The authentic support to the song was really surprising, because it started with regular people. There were no big promotional activities for this song, just the fans, and I truly love them for that.”
The song has reached the top 3 of Spotify Top 200 Philippines and the top 2 of Spotify Viral 50 Philippines chart. It continues to rack up impressive numbers even outside the country, peaking at No. 6 on Spotify Viral 50 Global and at No. 3 on Spotify UAE Viral 50, respectively.
In addition to its chart placements, the song is included in two major playlists: No. 2 on both Hot Hits Philippines and Tatak Pinoy, a flagship OPM playlist. To date, “Muli” has racked up more than 5 million streams on Spotify alone, with an increase of more than 3.2 million streams after gaining traction on TikTok.
Written, produced, mixed, and mastered by Ace Banzuelo himself in a small bedroom in Laguna, “Muli” sets itself apart from the formulaic ‘hugot’ ballads with its subtle electronic production and more eclectic influences. The chart-topping electro ballad incorporates heart-wrenching lyrics that go hard about the realities of both life and romance.
“Muli speaks of eternal faithful love,” reveals the young artist. “The song talks about one’s incapability of moving on despite surpassing multiple challenges in life. “
According to Ace, “Muli” was inspired from a dark place and time in his life since he was a little boy. He wrote the chorus first, with the ideas rushing in and flowing naturally to create an entire whole. “I knew which styles I wanted, and which sounds I wanted to grab from the start,” he adds. “I wanted to arrive at a dreamy, trap-infused sound that had a crying guitar.”
Ace Banzuelo is currently gearing up for the release of his first full-length debut album sometime this year. Expect more releases, videos, and other related content from the new hitmaker.

Let’s Support Filipino Businesses

I bought a pair of silver earrings today. I don’t necessarily need them but they are handmade and made of recycled silver. And they were made in the Philippines. I have several piercings, so I will surely rock them soon. I cannot wait to share that they are locally-made when my friends ask me where I got them.
I have been buying Filipino products for a few years now. It started with my toiletries, as many brands sold here were mostly imported and expensive. I researched some up and coming local brands that I can support. After some trial and error, I was able to find my holy grail products. They’re all locally-made and fairly priced. This was the start of my passion for Filipino products.
In the last five years, I have noticed the emergence of local brands that produced quality products. The local fashion industry has been very productive. Most of my clothes are now local. I’m proud to say that they are of good quality and very stylish.
Later on, I added bags, shoes, jewelry, and accessories from local designers and shops. I attended trade shows to broaden my knowledge of local brands and to expose myself to the latest trends. I also featured my local finds on my blog, which enabled me to help them grow in my own little way.
I felt good whenever I bought a Filipino product, because I know that I am saving jobs for my fellow Filipinos. I also had fun researching local brands. It was exciting to watch these businesses grow and thrive. Many of them survived the pandemic, which means that I’m not alone in the quest to buy Filipino.
Local products are a conversation starter for me. I often get asked where I got a certain accessory or shirt, and I would proudly share the link of the seller. It feels great to share my passion to others, especially to those who are not aware that these brands exist in the first place. And since I used to work in a bank, I know firsthand that buying local is synonymous to boosting our economy.
We may not be sure of what the future will bring, but we can be sure that buying local can help our country grow and thrive.
Now that I am a published book author, I’m aware of how laborious it is to produce a single book. I have shifted my interests to my fellow Filipino authors. It is a joy to discover interesting books written by Filipinos, for Filipinos. I hope that you can also support Filipino authors like me, because we are also brands in need of your patronage and interest.
Lastly, being a foodie means that buying Filipino is an easy endeavor for me. I love supporting Filipino restaurants and snack brands. It makes me happy to see that a lot of them are world class and are able to compete with foreign cuisines and brands. I will continue eating Filipino food and of course, that includes brewing Filipino coffee beans at home.
It’s true that we live in very uncertain times. We can only control some parts of our lives, and that includes the brands that we support, and the products that we buy. I hope that you can buy Filipino more often, until it becomes second nature to you.
Supporting our fellow Filipinos will not only help them, but it’s also good for the soul. So, start today! Buy a Filipino product now and you will realize that there are still many reasons to have Filipino pride.

EJ De Perio asserts the inevitability of endings on heartfelt debut single “Panandalian”
The heart-warming ballad serves as his first official single as a signed artist under Sony Music Philippines
Filipino singer-songwriter EJ De Perio defies the concept of perpetuity on “Panandalian,” his first official singleunder Sony Music Philippines.
Brimming with laid-back, acoustic guitars and minimal instrumentation, the heartfelt ballad asserts his sentiment that despite the uncertainty of the future, there will always be that one person who is willing to stick out with you through thick and thin.
“I wrote Panandalian out of the realization that nothing’s gonna last forever, and everything must come to an end,” says the talented newcomer. “The song is about preparing yourself for the inevitable change, and making sure to protect that one person who is willing to keep things the same way—even if everything around you is constantly evolving.”
The stripped-down track is produced by fellow singer-songwriter Migz Haleco, who honed EJ De Perio’s folk-pop sound with mellow sensibilities.
“I’m really glad that Migz helped me find the sound that fits my vision,” De Perio shares. “With Migz, it’s always a collaborative process. I provide input, and he executes it well.”
The release of “Panandalian” comes with a poignant music video helmed by young filmmaker Ivan Pasia. The MV, which stars young actor Francis Magundayao, conveys the message of the song with riveting earnestness, keenly aware of its commitment to power through despite life taking us on a bumpy ride.
A few months ago, EJ De Perio teased the streaming public with “BUNTONG HININGA” under WATERWALK Records. The guitar-pop ballad documents a conversation between him and God in one of his dreams. He also recently signed with Sony Music Philippines, and is planning to release thematically binding songs about “unspoken emotions.”
“I’ve been an independent singer-songwriter for 5 years and I didn’t see this coming,” De Perio shares in a statement. “I’m just glad that the Sony Music Philippines really believed in what I do and what I write. In return, I’m determined to use my platform to inspire more people through music. This is a gift that I hope to continue doingfor more years to come.”
