Seafood Ramen

𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗥𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻

𝘉𝘺 𝘚𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘢 𝘎𝘢𝘪𝘭 𝘓𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘴

My late father was a healthy eater, but he had one weakness: instant seafood ramen.

He did not smoke, he did not drink, but he loved his seafood ramen. It was quick, cheap, and delicious.

I never ate seafood ramen with him because I was never fond of the stuff. I was not even a fan of actual seafood. But somehow, his death changed me. But it did not happen in an instant.

I remember being unable to eat oatmeal for two years after his passing because that was his breakfast staple. And then, one fine pandemic day, I realized that I missed oatmeal. So, I went to the supermarket, bought a bag of instant oatmeal, and made myself a comforting cup of oatmeal once I got home.

It really was comforting. It felt like a hug. It felt like healing.

The oatmeal experience made me realize that perhaps, I am ready for the ultimate experience: instant seafood ramen.

One day, I trekked to the supermarket to buy a pack of instant seafood ramen. Since it was my father’s favorite, I took my time making it. I just left the bowl of very hot noodle soup for a few minutes as I collected my thoughts. I brewed myself a cup of coffee, since I drink coffee with every meal (just like my father did). When I was ready, I mixed the seasoning with the soup. And that was when it hit me.

My father enjoyed instant seafood ramen not because it reminded him of the actual seafood that he enjoyed during special occasions. Rather, because it was simply delicious. And for the first time ever, I actually liked it.

From then on, I would enjoy a bowl of instant seafood ramen. Due to health reasons, I would limit myself to having only one bowl a week. And yet, that would already stir memories of my dad. I would ask myself questions, which I would never be able to answer.

Is there instant ramen in heaven? Is it okay to eat instant ramen every day in heaven without getting sick? Does my father know that I eat his favorite cheap thrill because it makes me happy now? Will he like the books that I wrote? What will he say about my recently greenlit books for international publishing? Does he know that I reserve my weekly instant seafood ramen as a reward after acing a writing task? Does he know that I still write every day because it makes me feel like I am talking to someone who will listen?

What can he say about my partner, who also edited some of my books? What will he say about my partner’s seafood allergy? What will he say about my lifelong Ikea meatballs obsession? What will he say about my realization that grief is a lifelong process, but bouncing back takes time?

What will he say if I tell him that enjoying instant seafood ramen made me realize that I am finally okay? I have never forgotten him, and I never will.

I now get why people honor their dead loved ones by enjoying their favorites. I may never have another conversation with my father, and I no longer need his approval. But somehow, I know that I will be alright.

I know that real rewards are not earned in an instant. I know that real flavors are meant to be savored. I know that the people and things that make us feel warm are the ones that bring out the best in us.

I know that life has no powdered seasoning to spice it up, so I need to keep it interesting to make the journey worthwhile.

I know now that in heaven, my father can have all the instant seafood ramen that he wants.

Maluma teams up with Feid on new single “Mojando Asientos”

Its music video is the first release of his new production company Royalty films 

Global Latin music idol Maluma has just released his new single and video entitled "Mojando Asientos" featuring fellow singer-songwriter Feid. The video for the catchy reggaeton track was shot in Medellín, Colombia by none other than Maluma himself, Juan Luis Londoño, as both its director and producer.

“Mojando Asientos” is the first music video shot by his own production company Royalty Films. 

Making his directorial debut, Maluma’s vision was to create an artistic and visually poetic music video showcasing beauty, innovative imagery and figurative expressions through different environments, colors and nature. It was co-directed by Cesar “TES”Pimienta and Rayner Alba “PHRAA,” who have been longtime day-to-day Maluma collaborators for his brand’s art direction, photo and video content.

Maluma has always had creative input in his music videos and other projects and establishing the company was a longtime dream that progressed naturally throughout the years.

“I am happy to launch my own production house Royalty Films that will create videos for my music and my foundation as well as other projects including those of fellow artists,” the chart-topping superstar shares. “Royalty Films has been a dream that we wanted to accomplish and now we have the expertise and in-house talent and I am happy to collab with TES and PHRAA who know me so well and believe in my vision.”

After much anticipation, Dreamcatcher finally drops theirsecond album, ‘[Apocalypse : Save us]’ today via Sony Music Entertainment Korea. This is their second full-length album following the release of their first album ‘[Dystopia : The Tree of Language]’ two years ago, and approximately nine months since their EP ‘[Summer Holiday]’. 

Dreamcatcher presents a 14-track filled album as they embark on a new journey, making way for their ‘Apocalypse’ trilogy.

Following Dreamcatcher’s ‘Dystopia’ series, the K-Pop rock group introduces their new ‘Apocalypse’ era. Their new album ‘Apocalypse : Save us’ is a desperate plea and cry to save the planet from ecological damage and global warming. The title track “MAISON” (translating to “home” in French) stays true to Dreamcatcher’s sonic identity and style based on rock genre and distortion bass. Filipino hip-hop group PLAN B delivers a spellbinding crossover jam on “Love”

The 10-piece ensemble taps SB19’s PABLO as producer for their debut R&B/rap single

10-member hip-hop group PLAN B marks their highly anticipated debut with “Love,” their first official single under Sony Music Philippines.

The smooth, soulful track was arranged by SB19’s PABLO, who delivers his producer stamp with no-skips-required hook and signature swagger. In return, the newly formed mega-group breathes new life to the genre with a star-turning performance that serves as testament to their craft.

With an inescapable groove that seems built for vibing, PLAN B’s “Love” chronicles multiple failed attempts in pursuing someone on a romantic level.

Its music video perfectly encapsulates the lyrics written by PLAN B’s Mateo and Gio themselves. Directed by Chapters PH’s Ken Tan, the visuals find two friends outdoing each other in billiards and bowling to compete for a girl’s attention, only to find out in the latter part of the narrative that she’s already taken.

Highlighting the crew’s music-making style, PLAN B’s “Love” went through arduous approval process during its conception. As the group puts it, “we all agree first of all on everything. When the internal discussion is finished, we look for a suitable beat that fits the narrative. Then we send it to boss B and kuya HBOM for final approval.”

PLAN B is an up-and-coming hip-hop/rap ensemble, consisting of members from all around the Philippines: Alyas Dom (Metro Manila), DK (Pangasinan), Dyno (Bicol), Gio (Metro Manila), G-Next (Laguna), GOSGE (Cavite), Kaizler (Pangasinan), Kier (Pangasinan), Mateo (Cagayan De Oro), and Skyruz (Misamis Oriental). 

They are currently managed by Skye Productions, which counts H-BOM, Ren and more as part of its roster.

TECNO Mobile Gives the Power of POVA Neo to Local Community Heroes

Grab PH drivers and riders, and everyday heroes from Malolos Bulacan received POVA Neo smartphones at TECNO Mobile’s recently-concluded CSR events.

The project is in line with the launch campaign of POVA Neo, TECNO Mobile’s latest smartphone offering, which celebrates everyday heroes who power on with their day-to-day tasks in order to serve the community. For this year’s CSR activities, TECNO Mobile partnered with Grab PH, plus a few of the country’s up and coming content creators, to reach out to local communities once again, and inspire people and make a difference. Through this initiative the brand also hoped to motivate more people to participate in community outreach programs, and make them see that it isn’t about the size of the donation, but the sincerity to help others. 

TECNO Mobile Gives Back to Grab PH Riders and Drivers

Grab PH riders and drivers have been lauded as true heroes of the pandemic over the last two years, helping make day-to-day life easier for thousands of Filipinos by making things accessible, even from home. These drivers face various challenges each day they spend on the road, but they never stop moving, and continue to provide their much-needed services to the community. 

Recognizing their efforts, TECNO Mobile celebrates the everyday contributions of Grab PH by giving back to the company’s hardworking drivers and delivery riders. The meaningful collaboration between TECNO Mobile and Grab PH is reflective of the positive message that the POVA Neo campaign aims to impart.

A donation handover took place at the Grab PH Headquarters in Metro Manila on April 9, 2022 during Grab PH’s Papugayevent, which the company mounts each quarter to show appreciation to, and recognize their outstanding drivers. As a beneficiary, Grab PH received 65 units of POVA Neo smartphones. This smartphone’s large battery capacity is perfect for the riders and drivers of Grab PH, and will be a big help as they navigate through the city, and provide excellent on-time service. The donation was received by Grab PH’s Papugayawardees, Grabfood rider Richard Aguilar, Grab driver Ricky Dalansay, Grab rider Arc Cabuello, and Grabfood rider Michael Sales.

Influencers for the Greater Good

Earlier in April, TECNO Mobile and online influencers Vishnu Isles, Matt Nicolai, Benette Ballester, Xai Smith, Acy De Castro, Edlyn Mea, Banessa Raya, Carol Reyes, Cedrix Eligio, Aldrich Ching, Von Razo, Sharleen Jonson, Blair Madamba, Karen Aquino , banded together to celebrate and recognize the everyday heroes of Malolos, Bulacan. These are individuals who unfailingly provide their services for the betterment of the community, in spite of adversities faced. 

At the handover event held on April 5, 2022 at the Malolos City Hall Auditorium, 50 POVA Neo units were donated by TECNO Mobile, to be shared with its beneficiaries from City Health Office and the Office of Senior Citizen Affairs, PNP, Bureau of Fire Protection, Force Multiplier, Social Services, Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, and local students. The donation was received by the Chief of Staff from the Office of Mayor Gilbert “Bebong” Gatchalian of Malolos City, Bulacan, Atty. Belle Castro.​​
