Intay Ag Pancit's Batil Patung or Batil Patong


I do not really care whether my favorite pancit from the north is spelled as Batil Patung or Bating Patong. I care about taste. Intay Ag Pancit's version of this beloved Tugueguarao staple delivers warm, fuzzy feels in a plate. For Php90, you can savor rich, flavorful noodles in a rich secret sauce with beef, chicharon, and poached egg. The flavor is consistent and the chopped red onions liven up the dish especially after pouring on the sauce. It is best paired with their houseblend iced tea.

For dessert, I highly recommend their dulce de leche chocolate cake and rice coffee. The cake is moist and mildly sweetened, while the rice coffee has a roasted, nutty aftertaste that lingers in your mouth. It is a delightful ending to a perfect meal in the heart of Quezon City.

Round Robin Cafe's Salmon Carbonara and Key Lime Pie


I have always enjoyed eating at Round Robin Cafe in Maginhawa. They have recently moved to a bigger and more chic location, which made me more relaxed as I had dinner with A and my uncle. We all had light fare, and my personal favorite always wins whenever I am here. I can never dine here without having their salmon carbonara.

Their version of this classic pasta dish is very light and not cloying. It is comfort food without the guilt. I had to cap off the night with my favorite dessert there, which is their key lime pie. 


Their take on the key lime pie is surprisingly good. They used a cheesecake base, which offset the tangy lime flavor. Everything in the cafe is homemade and they use fresh ingredients, so this baby does not taste artificial or too zesty. In fact, it is just right.  

They also have great coffee and fast internet. If ever you want to chill and spend a slow, light meal with your loved ones, go to Round Robin! You won't regret it.  

Intay Ag Pancit: From Tugueguarao to QC

I have been a fan of Pancit Batil Patong since I tasted it at a now-defunct restaurant along Maginhawa. I was heartbroken when that resto closed down and its other branch opened in Ortigas. The upscale location meant a price surge which made this Tugueguarao specialty beyond my budget. 


This explains why I was overjoyed when Intay Ag Pancit opened in Quezon City. I was eager to taste their version of Pancit Batil Patong, which is made with beef and poached egg. For Php 90, I got a heaping serving which satisfied my taste buds. It is soul food. Meanwhile, A had Pancit Cabagan as he is allergic to seafood (Batil Patong has patis or fish sauce), and he said that this pork-based dish was delicious. He also had their version of tapsilog, which he quickly declared as one of the best he has ever had. 

If ever you find yourself in QC with a strong craving for Tugueguarao noodles, go to Intay Ag Pancit. You will have the best pancit for less than Php 100. Do not forget to try their houseblend iced tea!

Rodic's Tapsilog


I graduated from Holy Family School along Maginhawa, the famous foodie street in Quezon City, which is why it is sacrilegious for me not to be a Rodic's tapsilog devotee. Their flaky beef tapa brings back good memories. The garlic rice and egg seal the deal. Their free soup is actually sinigang so you really get your money's worth. I always get two servings of their soup because it goes well with my favorite all day breakfast meal. 

They now have a branch at UP Town Center, which is perfect for mall rats who want to savor yummy tapsilog, while reminiscing on simpler times. It is the best cheat day idea, which is kind to your wallet and guaranteed to make your day a lot sunnier. 

KopiRoti Set B

I have been a KopiRoti fan since I started working in 2009 and I am still enjoying their Set B. It consists of soft boiled eggs, kaya toast, and kopi. It is comforting and filling, which is perfect as a post-workout meal. I will definitely come back for more Set B good vibes next time!


Recession Coffee Flat White


A and I thought that Recession Coffee's "pay-what-you-can" scheme for their EDSA BDG brews is genius. It is the perfect opportunity to experience astounding coffee (we had Dark Matter Theory Flat Whites!) at a price you nominate. So whether you have budget for a third wave cuppa or you can barely keep up with your expenses, remember that this gem in Eastwood Mall is there to be your sanctuary from mediocrity. The best part is that it is within your reach. Just make sure to pay more when you already can. 


SGD Etag Carbonara and SGD Black Coffee


I am having breakfast again at SGD Coffee and I am officially in love with this cafe. It is perfect for finding your bearings after a chaotic week or a long night. In my case, I am feeling under the weather and I need a hug in a mug (or in this case, on a plate and a cuppa!).

 I ordered their etag carbonara and black coffee. Etag  is traditional Sagada smoked pork. It's a marriage between bacon and asado, and it is yummy with their tangy, yogurt-based white sauce. The country bread is freshly baked and balances the myriad of flavors in the pasta. Meanwhile, the SGD black is best enjoyed as is.

I cannot wait to try the more of SGD's soul food and coffee! 


SGD Omelette and Black Coffee

I just had the freshest veggie omelette I have ever had here at SGD Coffee. Thanks to a navigation app, I was able to find this gem of a cafe near the Maginhawa foodie area. I was hungry from my workout, so I was keen to try a heavy breakfast in a place I have never been to before. Good thing I have decided to eat here because it has a rustic mountain feel which instantly sets the mood for chilling out and slowing down. 


Their SGD Omelette is to die for. It has fresh vegetables and three eggs, and even their basil is otherworldly. I am not used to eating veggies this fresh and crisp. It is worth the price of Php230, which includes this cup of SGD Black. 


It is the type of black coffee which you do not tamper with milk and sugar. It is that awakening and smooth. This is coffee in HD. 


This place needs more love! Do visit them at 45 Maalalahanin Street, Teacher's Village, Quezon City. They also have a dreamy Instagram account. Do visit them soon and try their food and coffee!

Italianni's Smoked Salmon Sandwich

One of my favorite sammies is the Smoked Salmon from Italianni's. Think juicy salmon + cream cheese + Italian truffle fries (a.k.a. potato chips). It is a dependable classic and goes well with any soup of the day.


It is the ideal pick-me-up during a lazy bedweather day. The flavor and serving size are perfect for one hungry girl.


Next time you find yourself at Italianni's, try this sammie and you won't be disappointed!

Via Mare Puto Bumbong

Puto bumbong is my favorite glutinous rice cake. It is a Christmas staple in the Philippines, but I eat it all year round at Via Mare. Their version is follows the traditional recipe, and serves two rice cakes with muscovado, melted butter, and shredded coconut.


I enjoyed drawing this because of the lovely mix between the purple rice cakes and melted butter. 💜💛 


It definitely tastes like Christmas, even in the heat of summer. Go ahead and try it!

BookBrekkie: Oinkster Toasted Naked Longganisa

My favorite naked longganisa from Breakfast Bin can also be savored at their sister resto Oinkster, which is also along Maginhawa. Compared to Breakfast Bin's narrow interior, Oinkster's ambience is geometric-inspired, with prism lamps and pattern tiles. Their loft-type place can accommodate more people, which is ideal for us all-day-brekkie fans!


As always, their naked longganisa does not disappoint. I always enjoy it with brown rice and coffee, making it my go-to afterburn meal on weekends.  


I'm currently reading Boost Your Creative Intelligence by Harry Alder. With a self-explanatory title and a straightforward brekkie, I really couldn't ask for more. 

Where's Marcel? Flat White

I wanted both coffee and a different environment for lunch. I wanted to go somewhere I have never been to so I decided to go to Where's Marcel?, an Aussie third wave cafe along Pearl Drive. I ordered a flat white and sat by the shared meeting table, which was inspiring to say the least.

The flat white was satisfyingly awakening, as far as single origin blends go. I was fascinated by their ambience, so I whipped out my Traveler's Notebook and sketched using ordinary ballpoint. The exercise was soothing and relaxing.  

We all need to visit a new place every once in a while. Where's Marcel? certainly did not disappoint! I will definitely be back, as I was intrigued with their bulletproof coffee. 

Testify Coffee and Rare Finds' Tinapa Pasta

Stumbling upon an indie cafe in crowded Manille can be commonplace. A coffee shop which celebrates rare finds such as a homey atmosphere and no-frills caffeinated heaven is harder to spot. I was delighted to learn that there was a cafe which has the said ambience and get this- talks which promote slow living topics such as paper quilling and writing. I heard that there was a talk on snail mail tonight. Since my boyfriend isn't feeling well, I braved the unknown side (at least for me!) of Quezon City and drove to Testify Coffee and Rare Finds for dinner and dialogue. 

Since I already had three cups of coffee today, I decided to skip the brew and just ordered tinapa pasta. Omg it's so good! The smoked fish was nicely cooked and mixed with al dente fettuccine. The result is a dish that's not difficult to love.

I wish more people will try this tiny treasure trove of analogue traditions and tastes. I hope to try their coffee soon!  

Fariñas Ilocos Empanada's Longganisa Meal

I have been loyal to Fariñas for their empanadas (my favorite is their Special with extra cheese) and their plain miki. It is only quite fitting that I will find something more filling so I tried their longganisa meal before (along with their longganisang hubad meal) and I just keep coming back for more. Their vigan longganisa is legit and is a key ingredient of their famous empanadas. For Php99, you get three longganisas, sliced tomatoes, half a sliced salted egg, and plain rice. Not bad right?

It's value for money and satisfying. What's more, Fariñas is open 24/7 so you can have your longganisa fix anytime. Make sure to enjoy your meal with their spicy vinegar (sukang Iloko) which is provided in the condiments area. If you're a hardcore fan, you can even buy their longganisa for takeaway, along with their sukang Iloko.

Fariñas Ilocos Empanada is one of the most underrated all-day brekkie places in the metro. I hope you will try their food soon. It's yummy and very affordable!

Every so often, we stumble upon a not-so-secret foodie find which is too good not to share. I often find this along Maginhawa, where most of my favorite restaurants are. The well-loved Good Burgers is one of them. 


My go-to order their is the Veggie Margherita in best serving. That's two patties of meatless guilt. It doesn't taste like faux meat and it's absolutely filling. It also tastes like margherita pizza. I mean, check out the mozzarella! (Plus points for their pandesal bun. Again, PANDESAL BUN!)


The basil's strong on this one. And at Php145, you definitely can't go wrong with this neighborhood burger find. They really do serve good burgers!

Having a diet from Monday to Friday has developed a sense of discipline and determination in me to stick to my routine. By the time the weekend comes, I'm just relieved that I can finally have my cheat days and indulge!

I've been going to Breakfast Bin for years now. It's right along Maginhawa, a famous foodie street in Quezon City which is accessible to students and residents who want good grub without the intimidating price points. Their narrow space can only sit three groups of four at a time, with an al fresco area which could accommodate two more groups, but I'm not complaining. They have since opened a sister resto called Oinkster and is also open for breakfast, but I still prefer their original setup because it reminds me of being a student myself (I graduated high school in Holy Family School, which is along Maginhawa) and of simpler times.

My go-to order here is this glorious BB Toasted Naked Longganisa with brown rice and coffee. Their   pinakurat vinegar perfectly brings out the saltiness of the longganisa, which is a local breakfast sausage. The brown rice makes me feel less guilty especially since I eat this after working out (haha I know, less guilty!). And their coffee is similar to Cafe Mary Grace's homey brew. All in all, it is a familiar staple which I cannot complain about. You have to try it because it's damn good. 

I'm currently reading A Whole New Mind by Daniel H. Pink. I was fascinated by his other book Drive that I just had to read his earlier work too. I like his writing style as he can give you ideas which are well-researched without sounding scholarly or intimidating. It basically speaks about adapting your way of thinking to respond to changes in our world today, such as globalization and outsourcing. 

It feels great to be back with food blogging. The last time I did this was during the glory days of Multiply. Now that I have my own website, I feel inspired to write about my favorite food and hopefully you can try them too one of these days!
